My family asking me to stop losing weight!!!

My mom and sister have told me that im losing color on my face and that I should stop losing weight. I still want to lose 8 more pounds and if I do so I will be 5'8 and 160lbs am I right to strive for this goal? I don't think its an unreasonable goal at all!

Honestly it depends. Are you doing everything in a healthy and proper fashion? You shouldn't be losing color on your face during a diet. If you aren't training properly, I completely agree with your family.

Your weight goal is perfectly reasonable (but you may want to consider body fat percentage as well -- a higher weight is ok if your body fat percentage is not too high). But if you really are losing color in your face (or don't feel as good as you used to feel), you may have a medical problem that may or may not be related to losing weight / fat. You may want to see a doctor if that is the case.

In most cases, your family might be right. I'm assuming nothing about how you lost the weight (healthy or unhealthy loss). Of course, if you just dropped 5 pounds, then your family said that, it might be unreasonable worries. However, if you lost a considerable amount in a short period of time (like 40-50 pounds), then the worry might have some validation to it.

Ask what their concerns are. In some cases, the new appearance might make them feel uncomfortable. However, if you're continuing to drop the weight, then you might want to consider their concerns. There is nothign wrong with dropping 40-50 pounds, but if you drop below your natural body weight, you may end up with problems.

That's just the way moms are. They have that instinct to make sure their kids are well fed and it never goes away. My wife is 5'7 and about 128. My mother-in-law acts like she's anorexic or something

Nobody ever outright asked me to stop what I was doing, but I had a couple relatives who questioned it. Just thought it was wrong or unsafe or something...I just told myself, I know what I'm doing, keep it up.

People dont understand why others want to lose weight, yet most people want to lose weight themselves. People have no idea what is or is not healthy in this day and age.

For the sake of any argument, you may want to consult a doctor, tell him/her what you are doing and that you would like a complete physical. If everything is ok, then you can go back to your family, and show them. Then noone will have cause to worry :)

Cheers,
Diane

Gawd! I HATE that!!!! I sound much like your wifes stats: 5'7" 124lbs. My mother in law does that same crap!!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

It is soooooo irritating....thing with my MIL is she is lazy, and sedentary and must weight almost 200lbs and she is only 5'2. And she looks for ways to pick at me....:SaiyanSmilie_anim:

My empathy to your wife......

I was wearing a long sleeved shirt that was baggy on me and my grandma said I was looking too thin. I whipped my shirt off and she said "nevermind, you're just all muscle now" LOL

She's Under 5'0 and over 200 mind you

I didn't read the responses BUT all i'm going to say is FORGET what your family is saying

is your losing weight the right way, and still want to lose a bit more. go for it.

My mom sometimes buys me clothes for Christmas, birthdays etc. and I can't get through to her that I don't need an XXL shirt anymore LOL I 'm under 190, I look like a clown in XXL...except for some reason I had to get XXL when I bought an Old Navy Hoodie

5'8 at 160 lbs is a reasonable goal, so long as you are taking off the weight in a correct and healthy manner (proper nutrition and exercise).

So... how are you going about taking the weight off? If you are doing it healthily, then you have nothing to worry about and you should tell your family to quit being jealous and hop on the wagon. If you are not losing the weight healthily, then you need to work on doing it the right way.

but thats the thing, I'm doing everything the right way, I mean i'm not starving myself, throwing up food, taking pills or anything like that. I'm eating plenty of protein, carbs, fat, and am working out.

I feel fine and in my soccer games I've noticed that I don't get tired as fast and even when it's over I still feel like running. I feel great!

I'm thinking of going to the doctor and see what he says so I can put their worries to rest.

This **** happens. I did the V Diet and gots lot of crap from my wife (not so much) and her family. I can understand a bit, its kind of extreme.

However not but 4-6 weeks ago I was leaving for my work and my father in law says, "you taking your lunch?" I say ya its right there (Supreme Protein bar and bag of cashews, peanuts). He said, "oh you're starving yourself again?"

I thought to myself, I actually eat more then all three of them combined. My inlaws are experts at everything in their own minds. Father in law told my wife that to lose weight he knows for a fact that you should 1) walk everyday 2)dont eat after 7pm.

Its really sad that my wife wants to lose weight and is resorting to barely eating. She eats cereal or oatmeal at 12pm for breakfast/lunch, then comes home and eats two small meals of basically carbs. When she loses 10 lbs she will start to exercise...

Its only natural that they would worry.

Eating disorders are a lot more common these days! Just prove to them that you are eating and doing things healthily enough :)
