Hyperextensions for bad lower back?

Well i know that weighted hyperextensions strenghten the lower back but i'm wondering are they at all unsafe if you have a weak back or a bit of lower back pain??

I do not have a great lower back... will this exercise performed 3 times a week for 3 sets 12 reps each time while holding some weight (to make it somewhat challenging but nowhere near failure after 12 reps) help me or is it dangerous??

You have to be carefull because if your form is wrong or apply too much weight you can put enourmous strain all in a very small space.

Overextend it and you can trouble your spinous processes.

There are plenty of nice exercises you could try on one of those bouncy ball things.

it's not dangeoraus aslong as you don't hyperextend your back.. hyperextension is really a bad thing to call the exercise.. I call them back extensions. When you come up, stop before you get a big arch in your back.

Well, if you think you have a weak back and are already experiencing lower back pain, you should start off without the weight and strengthen your back up to using weight.
