Advice on whether to eat post Work out

Hi all, i have read before that you should eat post workout but what is the advantage of this? i dont get to the gym until 8pm and amnt home again til after 10pm, doing a mix of cardio and weights.
i am trying to lose fat so surely i shouldnt eat at this time as im in bed usually within an hour or so.
Any thoughts or explain what the advantage of eating after is or what should i be eating, remembering goal is weight loss.
 
The advantage is that your body needs to recover and can't do so as well when it's on empty. You are fueling it to push on the next day. I'd go for a good recovery drink. You don't want anything too heavy because like you said, you're just going to sleep!

I've experimented around and tried several Recoverite from Hammer Nutrition, Endurox, Cytomax makes one as does Powerbar.
