Grip training

I started using Captains of Crush grippers a few weeks ago but last week i started getting a pain in the top of my hand below the knuckles. The pain has been there for about a week now and has stopped me from grip training and it is even painful to shake someones hand. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
Do I need to train the hand in a different way other than grippers in order to keep it healthy?

What routine are you doign with the captains of crush? It sounds like you may have an over use type injury. Did you also get the stretch bands to work the opposing muscles?
 
But I only used them once a week. No I don't have the bands, is their anything i can do to work the opposing muscles without them? Thanks for the help
