Can you eat solid protein instead of shakes?

Hi I have a question about protein shakes and thier effect. Let's say after a workout I want to eat chicken breast or turkey slices can I do so Instead of protein shakes? because I tend to prefer these in order to preserve muscle.. in other words, can I aachieve the same goals without any shakes and instead have a lot of solid protein ( i eat about 150-250g protein everyday, and I weight 147lbs)

OF COURSE MAN. Most of your protein is supposed to come from NATURAL SOLID foods. Protein shakes are not necessary, they just help with protein intake.

Protein shakes are liquid, therefore quicker to digest, therefore quicker to prevent catabolism than chicken or turkey.

They arent' necessary though, and if you had to choose between shakes or real food, obviously go with real food. THe advantage is that they're easy to prepare and easy to digest

some people on other places have responded me with this:

"I've gained pretty nice size and strength over my friend that DOESN'T drink a pwo shake, but has the same diet as me virtually.
"

What is exactley catabolism please? Since I fear that I may be doing something a bit bad lately, since I have been adding 1 kg to each dummbell (currenlty 18kgs on each dumbbell,I used dumbbells for weights) and still I cannot see muscle gains. Is this because of my diet? (since I am very low on carbs and Im cutting?)
So I can say that right now I am "maintaining" what I have and at the same time cutting?

ps: Im not losing muscle, just staying the same.

If you're cutting, you shouldnt' expect to see muscle gains. I'd imagine the fact that you are able to add weight is adaptations of CNS (I could also be completely wrong.)

Catabolism is the breakdown of protein for fuel after a workout. That (to my limited understanding) is why you take protein shakes post-workout.

oh i see. thanks then. Im relaxed now. was afraid that I was doing something bad. maintaining what I have until now is good enough for me. I have a personal BATTLE with myself to achieve my six pack.

I just find that a shake is the easiest way to consume anything after training. I'm often a physical wreck after lifting so solid foods wouldn't go down; and if they did they wouldn't stay down.

Shakes are a quick and easy way of getting protein and carbs in good amounts

thanks for the replies. can you elaborate on the shakes themselves? how much should I take, what should I take and does a PWO shake count as a meal? how many calories does it usually have?
