Need advice on elbow pain

I need some advice on some elbow pain i've just started having. I worked out yesterday for the first time in a very long time. I do some bicep curls at home with some 8 and 25 lbs weights. I do two sets of 10 reps, but at the gym I decided to ramp it up a bit because I have more weight available to me. I get on a bicep machine and I curl with both hand about 50-60 lbs. I do three sets of 13. The second set got hard, and the third I really had to work to pull the weight up. That night, no pain.

This morning I wake up with the normal soreness in my muscles, but I also have pain in my elbow. It seems to be coming from my bicep tendon. Someone told me I hyper extended it, and that I should ice it then heat it. I was just going to heat it. It didn't hurt yesterday, so am I correct in thinking it's not that bad of an injury? Help me understand, please.

Dont ice until 24 hours after the inury. Chances are you went a bit hard a bit fast and caused some joint inflamation and severe delayed onset muscle soreness. I would keep the ice on it and rest it and see how it goes over the next couple of days. If it still hasnt improved I would see a doctor.

Rats i meant no heat until 24 hours after the injury. Increases the bleeding so I understand. SO to clarify ice 24 hours and then heat and ice after lol

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll ice it tonight and add heat tomorrow afternoon. If it doesn't get better after Monday I'll see a doctor. And I'm learning my lesson and I'll take it easier next time.

There is a very good chance you have tennis elbow,

,

because I have gotten it from doing too many or too heavy dumbbell curls.

I have had tennis elbow in both elbows three times over the last few years, but am currently healthy. Unfortunately, there is isn't much an MD can do, other than give you a cortisone shot which only masks the pain, not the underlying problems of inflammation. In my case, icing it and taking non-steroidal painkillers, like Advil, helps the problem, but you have to lay off it for weeks or even months for the inflammation to go away.

The problem is an odd one. I think I just slept on it wrong, that compunded with having worked out a bit much. I worked out on Thursday. Friday morning my right arm hurt at the tendon on the inside of my elbow, but my left arm is ok. Saturday morning my right arm is better but my left arm hurts in the same location. Once I thought that I had slept on it wrong I remembered that the pain in my elbow was similar to pain I've had before when I've slept on it wrong.

Start wearing a compression brace on your elbow during workouts till it heals up. They help out a lot and good for tennis elbow, which you likely have. Also take Aleve in the recommended dosage for a while to get the swelling down.

Also lay off the curls too, there are lot of other exercises that are easier on the elbows until they get better.
