Steph's Journey

Im still going to look into vegan cheese because its interesting, but if it does nothing for the calories then I'll stick to regular cheese. Maybe ill look into a cauliflower mac and cheese...hmm...

So i wanted to check my bmr with the new weight...still going to keep at the 2000 calorie upper limit and im going to adjust to 5 days minimum exercise. If i get 6 in thats great if not im not going to stress.

I dont know whats wrong with me this fall. Usually i dont have so many issues with pain in the foot...but it flared up again today. Im going to go home and wrap it and maybe throw some heat on it for a bit. I still want to do the exercise bike after dinner..hopefully by then it will feel better.

Hope your foot feels better asap. I´d usually say cool it rather than heat it but you know your own body best and you´ve been dealing with it long enough to know. It sucks when our bodies don´t do what we want them to.

Thanks LaMa. If this keeps up i will have to call my doctor and get a recommendation on a podiatrist to rule out any underlying issues that might be causing this.

Im so frustrated this morning. I ended up spending about 10 minutes at a low/medium intensity on the bike yesterday and my foot felt ok...until i got off it and finished making dinner.
Now this morning as soon as i got up and started walking it started hurting. To make matters worse the pain is radiating into my ankle.

Why is my own body trying to sabotage me?

I dont want to go home today and just rest. :(

Sorry to hear you´re struggling. Maybe the increase in exercise was a bit quick for your foot to adapt to? You could try sit-down (or lie-down) exercises if you really want to move despite needing to rest your foot.

Yea...i suppose i could do some core exercises...its just aggravating that im getting thrown off my routine.

In other news, a customer of mine has been trying to set me up with a friend of his. I dont know what possessed me to do it, but i gave him my number to pass on to his friend.

Im not that girl...i dont make the first move. I dont regret it though, even if nothing comes of it.

Sorry to hear about your foot, but please take care of yourself - as you already know & fear a more severe injury will only throw you out of the routine longer. Can you do something like paddling a kayak or canoe in the meantime to keep you off of your foot?

And congrats on putting yourself out there. I've made a fool of myself plenty, but my only regrets are the chances not taken...

Hehe. Its a high of 47 degrees today...theres no way im getting anywhere near outdoor water. I'll figure something out.
Ive been resting my foot where i can at work so it's not screaming at me like it was this morning.

I put myself out there...but im still not brave enough to do an online dating site/app..i keep telling myself its because i dont photograph well and im better appreciated in person. Haha

That's funny. Good for you passing on your number. As Err said, "my only regrets are the chances not taken..."
Please get that foot seen to :)

So this morning is a bit better.
I ended up doing 20 minutes on the bike yesterday, even though i wanted to walk. (Rain and 45 degrees and walking dont mix)
I was testing something yesterday. When i was up and moving around, instead of wearing just socks or slippers, i wore shoes.
I find that when i dont have the cushion and support of shoes, i alter the way i walk. The reason is, in the ball of my foot behind the big toe i can feel the bone hitting the floor more acutely. I dont know if that makes sense. But i end up rolling my ankle slightly to compensate and place my weight on the outside of my foot more to prevent that bone from impacting equally with the rest of my foot. This causes all the muscles and the ankle tobe out of whack.
So far my testing has resulted in an overall better feeling. It still hurts but i blame that on the weather shifts right now.
I did my workout with my shoes on as well and felt no worse for wear.
I will still seek out a podiatrist, because lets be real, i shouldn't be feeling bone hitting floor. But at least i put a stopgap in the aggravation for the moment.
If its not raining today, im going walking. I find the walking to be more pleasant than the bike. I have things to look at and i generally feel better after walking.

Good job on making it work yesterday Steph! Hopefully your foot holds up okay. It's definitely worth resting for a little while though instead of risk having some long term damage that could really stunt your progress.

Yep I've been taking it easier during my work days. Also, I've been trying to ease up after work...
This week will be a test in itself. Ive been doing less activity so far but maintaining the calorie deficit. If im not seeing some progress i may have to rethink things.

I cant let myself get lazy and stop my daily exercise all together...thats going to be the hardest thing for me. It's easy to go home and say "oh ill walk tomorrow" or "ill get on the bike later" and then never do.

Finding workarounds for your specific situation is a great thing. And you CAN be active without liading your foot, it just takes a lot more creativity.

Ouch, that doesn't sound pleasant. I'm glad you found a workaround, but I hope the podiatrist can solve the root issue.

Yea see the root issue is something i already kind of suspect. During recovery of the initial surgery that put the pins in holding my foot together i was told(after about 6 months recovery) that one of the pins was bent. How it got that way is beyond me because i was so careful to stay off it, but im sure its offsetting my bones a bit.
I think at this point...17 years later, i only have 2 options. Another surgery or deal with it as is.
Dropping the weight will help with the pain, this much i know...thats just another reason why its important that i do this. If i need another surgery on it... I dont even want to think about what that will do to my life as is.

Be positive. No one wants surgery, but if it improves your life - its worth the down time. Sometimes we think "powering thru" is the answer, when its really not. You're strong and I know you'll come out on top!

And just to say about the dating situation - the worst that can happen is nothing. You go on a coffee date, realize its not going to work and move on with your life. OR he could be "the one." Only way to find out is to shoot your shot.... and you did. :)
