Alligatorob's Diary

I've heard the term but I don't know of any solid substance behind it. I'm all for you raising your calories every week you lose weight though! And you did lose weight over the three weeks you ate 1500 kcal/day, didn't you?

I have heard the term too, but I think adding calories back in gradually is just a commonsense approach to easing into maintenance which everyone needs to do if they have been restricting calories to lose weight. Names are just gimmicky. I'm sure you have enough common sense to work it all out, Rob. You have got this.

Rob you seem to have this diet thing worked out . For us that are maintaining and want to lose we should cut our cals by 100 a day ! So makes sense for you to add in if your losing .

Up 2 pounds to 163, I believe this is my first weekly gain in over a year. I know its not regained fat, I am still in a calorie deficit, so no big deal. It will keep me from adding calories this week, but nothing else. I am fine.

You are fine, you're doing great Rob. It must be a bit of a shock to see the scales go up after all this time, but I would just keep the exercise and good eating up and consult with the gym instructor if you get a bit worried.

i know everyone seems to have some personal feelings about the"weigh yourself every day" routine, but i found it especially helpful as i approached the healthy BMI boundary. there were probably as many up as there were down days but without a graph, the steady but much slower weight loss trend would have been harder to pickup.

It was a good day, I ate well and feel good tonight. No gym or much exercise today, it was a rest day. I did mow the lawn and did some other yardwork, so got a little exercise. I am still struggling to make my 33 gram fat and 150 protein while staying under 1,500 calories, I made it today but had to do some careful choosing of portion size and food at the end of the day. It worked out ok. I also had my first weekly weight gain, kind of a shock to see, even if it was expected, and really kind of what I want. Not to gain weight but to stabilize.
Never heard about the reverse diet.
Thanks Xena, guess we have about the same level of expertise then, LOL!

Yes, even with the 2 pound gain I am down 4 lbs net in the 3 weeks, one reason I am not worried. I suppose reverse dieting is just the name people give to increasing calories after reaching goal. There does seem to be a lot about it on the internet, but like you and Xena its a new term to me.

I think you are right Cate, its just a name to give people the chance to express opinions. You would think it was just commonsense, but all the experts seem to have differing opinions, from a very slow deliberate process to some who don't believe in it at all and suggest you are better off increasing calories to your predicted maintenance level right away. I am not sure that last approach would be best for me. I could not find any good science behind any of it, just lots of opinions.

Thanks Petal, but I am not sure I will ever "have this diet thing worked out", I am just hoping to muddle along to something that works for me.

Thanks Emily, and it was a bit of a shock. For the last year and several months I have looked forward to the positive reinforcement of losing weight consistently. It was kind of exciting. That is now gone, and I am struggling a bit finding a replacement.

Thanks Flyer, that is a good idea. I already weigh myself every day, usually several times a day. What I don't do is record it, but I can see how in maintenance it would help sort out real weight gain or loss from noise.

Some days are harder than others. I'm sure you'll figure it out though. I am now very curious to see if next week's "official" number will be a drop back down or if you really are stabilizing.

Your lunch looked really good yesterday Rob. I'd definitely try to replace some of the protein powder with tinned fish - it's pretty low calorie and will give you a nice boost.

It was a good day, I ate well, exercised, and feel good tonight. I did a little over 2 hours in the gym and did not feel too tired. I was successful with my fat and protein goals for the day, and was able to eat 7 1/2 fresh vine ripened tomatoes and some okra from the garden. A good food day.

Yes, you are right, some days are harder than others, and I am trying to figure out something that works. I am sure I will never completely figure it out though. If I can get it good enough I'll be happy, and so far so good. My weight dropped back down to the 161 this morning, just bouncing around I guess...

Thanks Emily, that is a good suggestion. I may try some canned tuna tomorrow.

Today I ate well, exercised and feel good tonight. I did about an hour and 40 minutes of my home workout and feel good about it. I did eat some blue berries after what I had planned. It put me over 1,500 calories for the day, probably for the first time in over a year. Got some bad news today my uncle who I visited in Louisiana in February is dying, his heart is failing and the doctor says he only has a few days. I am glad I got to see him. He is 96 so its not too unexpected, but its hard on the family anyway. I worry most about his wife, my aunt, they have been married about 70 years, she is 95 and still going strong. Have spoken to her twice and she is taking it as well as could be expected. The hardest thing is she cannot visit him in the hospital... So I can't say it was a good day.
Tinned tuna is a great filler . Sounds like a good day rob . What happened the other half tomato ;)
The dogs got the other half tomato! They seem to like the tomatoes as well as I. Good idea on the tuna, I will try that.
Exactly. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.
Thanks LaMa, good council as always.
My weight jumps around quite a bit during the week.
Yes mine does too, I guess we all do.

Going over 1500 cals with blueberries sounds like maintenance done well.
I'm very sorry that your aunt can't be with her husband as he dies. That is very sad. I can't imagine if I was in her shoes. Things like that are what get to me about COVID. Life & death goes on, but everything is different & may never be the same again. :grouphug: Rob.

Very sorry to hear about your uncle Rob. His wife not being able to visit him is really hard. Life is tough right now.

Glad your food and exercise is going well.

Your poor aunt and uncle! Good thing you did go see them. Accidentally going over your calories limit with healthy food might just be the way to get used to maintenance.

Sorry about your loss, Rob.

It's amazing you put in 1.5 to 2 hours a day working out. It's the same with sticking with your diet. How do you have that kind of self-discipline?
