Lift, Train, Fitness

Had a good night at games night, eating remained good but I did have a single glass of wine.

Another stinking hot day, felt like keeling over in the heat when I went out to the launderette to get a load of washing done in town. Washing in town saves some of our precious tank water.

Hubby has been out all day fighting fires in this heat and I have no idea when he will make it home tonight.

Too hot to eat

Terrible times. I hope that you get some of the rain promised for parts of Queensland tomorrow.

It would be nice, there is a remote possibility of around 20 mm forecast for xmas day, which would be nice but won't make much difference, hubby is out again tonight at fire front, and on call for xmas day.

It was slightly cooler today, but still have no appetite.

I hope you get that 20mm on Christmas day, Tru & fingers crossed for you and everyone around you for Christmas/New Year.

Hubby was on fire duty most of the day, delayed opening xmas gifts with little miss until this evening. Has been a quiet day, had a sprinkle of rain (about 2 mil)

Hope to make it to some Boxing Day sales tomorrow, before settling down in front of the TV for the Test and checking on the Sydney to Hobart periodically.

Before moving to Queensland It was great to sit on the heads at Tathra above the Wharf and watch the passing boats and if the weather was bad go and check out the boats that had retired from the race.

Have not been doing much this week, fires in our area have subsided but I am sitting here horrified at the destruction and threat to life from where I spent my childhood seeing and hearing reports from family members, fire on 3 sides of town, the 4th is the ocean, no roads out, north of them is the blue mountains and Shoalhaven fires, with the highway closed, to the west Bemboka fires at the base of the very rugged Brown mountain blocking roads and sending burning embers as far as the coast, to the south are fires in Candello and the Tantawangalo state forest blocking roads to the south, where even if you could get through you would be running into the big Victorian fires just across the border. I have friends and family currently preparing homes for what could be a very bad new years eve in several small towns within the fire emergency zone, In Canberra while not currently under threat my sons are struggling with smoke and hoping that it will not be like the 2003 fires where 488 homes were destroyed in the capitol.

All of this puts a visit to mums grave out of the question in the new year.

Oh, Tru. It's horrendous. It makes me feel sick just thinking of the fear that people must be living under. It's too awful for words. Stay safe xo

Stay safe xo
Yes - thinking of you and your husband, and all firefighters. First thing this morning was checking the internet to see whether any fire was immediately threatening family or friends - no, although a nephew is in the Blue Mountains, but thankfully not in an immediate fire zone, and I hope not stupid enough to go there.
There's nowhere, though, that couldn't be a fire zone, given the starter. That business about the fire whipping up its own wind, big enough to roll the truck - and the death of the firefighter, is beyond horrific.

I have family evacuated from Bairnsdale (Victoria), and the vast majority of my family is in Bega and the surrounding towns (the showground is the evacuation centre). I have friends and family in areas under direct threat, just watched a video on the news taken in Bermagui where it is very dark and lit by a red glow with falling embers, I was chatting with C in Bermagui about the fires yesterday but don't expect to hear anything more from her till it is all over, I am concerned for all of my uncles and cousins in the area.

I also have family in the southern ranges (Snowy Mountains) Cathcart, Bombala etc with fires throughout the area.

Historic Cobargo village feeling full force of fire emergency

This is Cobargo (just north of Bega), the main street is on fire, the school has already gone.

Hubby just asked for the ok to join a strike team if one is sent from here.

The road leading to the right at the end of the bridge leads to Bermagui, Hubby and I have friends along that road.

Feeling stressed, but I am yet to eat junk today, so far.

this photo is Bermagui

I hope your family are safe, Tru. It is horrible what is happening in Australia.

I think it is hard for those outside of Aus to understand the true scale of this, the last figures I have seen is over 4 million Hectares destroyed across the country and there have been another week of bad fires since those numbers were calculated.

Yes, the scale and the danger. I saw someone posting from North America recently, surprised to hear that eucalypts can explode in the fire-driven heat. Safety to you and your family - that's a hard, hard call to make about being on a strike team.

Respect. May he and they be safe as well as overcoming the fires.
