Cate's Diary

I think yesterday's Christmas eating was the least indulgent ever. Christmasses are usually over the top. For breakfast, I had poached eggs on sourdough oat toast, with a little ham (my family tradition) & for lunch, we had scallop kebabs, followed by a small plate of peppered venison with lots of veggies. Mid-afternoon we had some yummy fresh cherries. For dinner, I had 6 keto crackers & some delicious fancy (expensive) cheese & a small bowl of ice cream with a small warm piece of gluten-free cake (found in the freezer) & a little maple syrup. I hadn't made or bought any Christmassy dessert things on purpose, but then really fancied something sweet last night. It was a very small dessert & did the job.
We got to spend a few hours with D on his own yesterday & he & G played a few games of snooker. It was nice.
I'm thinking of how I can get myself switched back on to lose weight. I think I need to go low carb but love my fruit. I'll do some homework now. When I lost 36 kg in 28 weeks back in 2007 I think I would have been in ketosis, without realising that was the basis of the diet I was on. It was also very low calorie. I might try going low carb I think & see how I go. I don't much like high fat though. Heading off to look up low carb............
Edit: Hmm. My breakfast had 63 carbs. I felt like a light breakfast & had this low sugar, light muesli with milk, strawberries & a dollop of Greek yoghurt. It was a WAG at which muesli to input & I'm sure it was lower in carbs than the one I chose on MFP, but low carb requires a whole different way of looking at my food. Back to the drawing board :)

Cate, I'm really glad your xmas went well. I hope you enjoyed & got some well-deserved R&R. With you on the weight loss journey all the way. Re: carbs, sometimes I wonder about my fruit intake as well. It is a bit of trial and error. First steps for me is always removing the bad carbs , i.e. processed grains + gluten. You will smash your goals though, I am sure, good luck =)

Love the sound of your Christmas eating - a good poached egg on excellent toast is just a top-notch breakfast, IMO - and the scallops! (I don't eat them now, but I remember them well! :D ) and fresh cherries - pretty much as good as it gets! Lovely - and the family aspect of your day too! So good. :beating:
Totally supporting you and cheering for you on the weight loss. How much are you planning to lose, over how long? I'm really impressed by your calculations of the carbs in things - I can see it's a system that works very well, often, but I'd hate to think of cutting down on any fruit - they're all so good - even guavas and feijoas, which surely nobody really likes all that much!

Misty- I think I will start with cutting down the starchy carbs like bread, cereal, rice, pasta etc. I love fruit!
Amy- I'm a big fruit fan, but will cut down. I want to lose 10 kg in 2020. I really want to get back to where I was & stay there forever. I have started. My food is hard to track as it's home-cooked. I'll try.

Good luck with figuring out your new eating plan Cate. I'm a pretty high carb person but I think my body likes it that way. I do keep considering trying gluten free for a bit though...
Anyways, your Christmas sounds really nice. It's nice to be able to enjoy the food without over-indulging!

Hi, Liza. Gluten does not agree with my body. I bloat up like a blimp. Christmas was nice. I don't fuss over it, but feel I should. Every year I think " maybe next year ":blush5:

I actually really like to keep my Christmas nice and quiet :)
yes I'd be curious to see if my body would not be so prone to bloating if i gave up gluten. Actually i think all the extra walking or something (maybe just eating less?) seems to be helping me already. I know i have some food sensitivities so gluten seems like a good place to start.

Cate good to see someone else back on track too. Your Christmas sounds really great. Hope you find a diet that suits you. It took me a while . But you know what works for you from the past . Is R a chef ? Cooking for 900 seems a huge amount .

Hi, Petal. Yes, R is a chef. Crazy time of year! I didn't have anything different really this year, so it is easier to get on track. That is when I work out which track :)

lol Cate tbh from reading what you ate over xmas I think you are pretty much on a healthy track anyway x

All tracks lead to Rome as long as you follow them in the right direction. Just gotta find a pleasant one you can stick to.

Hey Cate, I really like what you said about your Christmas eating, a balance I have not yet found. Instead I went the other way, if it didn't seem a reasonable part of my diet I just didn't eat it, ended up eating too little. Maybe good for short term weight loss, but not long term sustainable.

What is or was your eating downfall that caused weight gain? I have not seen you say much about it. Have you ever had a binge problem, or is it more just eating too much day in and day out?

Petal- I eat healthy food only, but too much. That's what has to change.
Amy- There are just too many tracks, so I think I'll forge my own.
LaMa- I'll figure out a pleasant track this morning. Going to Rome again would be nice :)

OK. So I know where I go wrong majorly. One is not weighing myself as then I'm not keeping an eye on my weight & two I'm back to having a wine at the end of the day with G. Not having a wine is the exception, rather than the rule. Then there's three- not exercising enough. I could go on probably, but I need to weigh myself twice a week, cut down on wine drinking, move more & put everything into MFP. Oh, yes and cut down on starchy carbs.
12 kg to lose.
I have set my calorie goal to <1450.
Step goal 5,000.
Go!
I will also make myself accountable to you all by reporting each morning on my previous day.
Rob- You just posted. I eat too much most of the time I think. It's all good food & I love wine. I don't binge eat. I want to find some balance between what you do & what I do. I think I need to be much stricter for a while to get the scale moving down & then establish a sustainable eating/drinking pattern. I have developed a fat stomach & it feels horrible. I can do it. I just have to.

Quick update on day 1, 4.45 pm-
BF- mushroom omelette on tiny piece of toast 386 cals.
Lunch- bowl of venison, veggies & lentil soup
Small bowl Weis mango sorbet with rhubarb & strawberries 356 cals
5,665 steps so far.
I am very hungry, but telling my stomach to shush! It's not listening.
Dinner tonight will be grilled salmon with steamed veggies, followed by 10 cherries, 1/2 an orange & 1/2 a nectarine.
No wine :)
My total if I have nothing else will be 1282, which would be a good start.

Sounds delicious!
