Cate's Diary

Hi Cate!

Ooph that sounds like a pretty serious cut. Glad it’s taken care of.

So relieved to hear the dizziness has passed!

You’ve got lots of birds there! That’s for sure. I’m impressed that you know what so many of them are. I’ve never learned all the different species, most to me are just little bird or big bird, but it would be fun to sit with a book sometime and identify them.

Wow, if only we could wrap them up in bubble wrap before sending them off into the world each day! That is some nasty cut and I am really happy you didn't panic! Do you think the walks are helping you with not reacting as much to the big ups and downs in R's life? I think meditation is really helping me be more even keel and just stop and consider situations a lot more of the time. It sounds so satisfying tackling so much of the stuff in your cupboards! Funny about your diaries stored in the toilet paper box with a "who gives a crap" saying on it. It sounds like you are taking your troubles less seriously and it is doing you good! It's good to write to someone who also tends toward anxiousness and finds humor in it, too!

Hi Cate. Is R back with the girlfriend, I can't remember what the last update was.

Did you not get curious and start to read the old diaries? I have some hilarious ones from when I was 10. I actually don't know where they are but I reread some of them a while back and my enthusiasm for life was astounding.

The talk of the fire makes me almost want winter to be here. We have a stove in my home house and I have one in the rental, so that will be lovely.

Oh lovely a stove fire I like lighting mine . Do it while we are still allowed !
Cate enjoy the day with your son tomorrow . Hope his finger heals fast

Hi, Pam. I think R was lucky not to lose his thumb altogether.
I never had that much interest in which birds are which until we lived here. It's a bird heaven. G always has the bird book handy & if I get it wrong he corrects me. It probably balances out me correcting his grammar! :)

Hi, LaMa. I'm learning not to take things on board so much & it felt good, not panicking. Sorting stuff out is very rewarding, even if I did just shuffle a lot of it about. I do have lots of space in my cupboards now.

Hi, Marsia. I think there are quite a few different reasons for me being able to cope better when things go wrong with him. I think meditation helps & exercise. I can usually laugh at myself. I try to anyway. I did decide that I couldn't change his world & that he had to do it himself & I give him lots of credit that he has done that. I actually told him that I am not so worried about him any more. I think that would help him too, knowing that I don't. He would never doubt how much I love him. There are only so many times you can say the same thing. He is now on medication, is eating healthily, exercising & drinking very little. I'm very proud of him.

Hi, Em. R is back with his GF, but I hadn't mentioned that in here. I have only told my sister. I have grieved over her so many times that I was afraid to get my hopes up again. I really love this woman & I know she's the one for him & that they are very much in love.
I ran out of time with the diaries but imagine myself pulling that box out one rainy day & reading back over them. They only date back to when we took over the pub, not my life beforehand. I never kept a diary when I was young.

Hi, Petal. I'm not going down to see our son. He started laughing when I said that I was. He & I have a similar sense of humour.

I'm going out to lunch today with the golfing women to celebrate G's final radiation. I am being picked up down on the highway & we're going to an Italian restaurant. I looked at the menu & there are lots of delicious looking GF options. I may even have a dessert today if I have room as I am going to knuckle down on the 1st of September. I think I do better when I am strict with my diet. Actually I don't think I will have dessert. If lunch is nice I'll go there with G sometime & then we'll share a dessert.

OK- time to get moving. I really need a new going out outfit.

Wow, Tru! That is quite a list. You get such exotic coloured birds up North & ours are not so colourful. We don't see all the Tasmanian birds up here & I may have missed some. I did an online survey a few years ago & actually got sick of it by the end as we argued about which bird was which when they landed on the birdbath. It took away part of the simple joy of seeing them.
Lunch should be fun. Hopefully, someone doesn't wear perfume & I don't have to sit away in a corner.

My parents took part in a phone survey on birds in the garden a couple of years back and the lady accused them of lying :D

Cate, after all of the discussion of Laphroaig I went and got a bottle, my first in a while. As I remembered it is expensive, $50 for a 750 ml bottle. A 1,750 ml bottle of Jack Daniels is less, but they are not in the same class. It was the standard 10 year Laphroaig, the only one in our liquor store, I know you can get better and more expensive, that will have to wait. I put the bottle aside and will save it for a special occasion.

Very best wishes for your friend's final radiation - and have a great lunch (probably already over?). I'll join you in buckling down to health etc from 2 September! :Angel_anim:

That's funny, LaMa. I was surprised we weren't asked again, but maybe that was why :)

Whoops. :blush5: I didn't mean to encourage you. I'm trying to have just a little bit of something I like, but whisky doesn't tempt me any more, even the really good ones.
Enjoy the lunch Cate . Love Italian food .
I did, thanks Petal. I didn't choose well but will go back again with G some time. It was a lovely place & I had a lovely time. There were 11 of us and none of the ones I don't like. I think I love almost anything Italian but didn't spot any Italians working there, nor hear any Italian accents. I would love to be able to fix their spelling mistakes, both on their online menu & paper one. The pizza chef will cook a pizza with whatever toppings I like next time.

Thanks, Amy. She's done with radiation now & I don't think will have any more treatment, regardless. She's a very tough-minded cookie. I really love & admire her. One of our older ex-members came along & it was discussed amongst a few of us that she should be included every time. They don't invite every ex-member as it would get tricky, but I suggested we could call her our tribal elder. We had lots of laughs yesterday amongst ourselves & it was really enjoyable. On the drive home I talked about how I was treated the last time I played by the captain & a couple of them said they were disgusted & one of them had decided to say something about it to her. I asked her not to & said that I had planned on doing so. They also think I should not do the bar & just play & enjoy my golf.

Poor G had the sleep testing machine on again last night as one sensor didn't work last time. He hardly got any sleep. If it doesn't work this time he's abandoning. We have to return it today, but otherwise have nothing planned.

Sounds like a possible road toward keeping the social benefits of your current club if you should decide to defect by the end of the year ;)

Cate,
Pleased you ate what you liked . I'm involved with a group of ladies who go out to dinner. It started with a similar age group and we enjoyed it. It's hard though as it grows legs and a couple more are added but I feel bad then that others should be asked. its hard when inviting in a group.

Glad your friend is doing ok .

Hi, LaMa. I think I can find a healthy & happy balance & continue to play with the women locally on the same day as G goes off to his to play with his group & occasionally (maybe once a month) G & I will go along to his club on a Saturday & play in team events, where we can share his clubs. The 2 clubs have reciprocal rights so I can play there as often as I like really. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow.
Hi, Petal. It can be very tricky with groups and I am not normally keen on going out with groups of women. Luckily the ones I don't much like don't usually go. I don't know how long my friend, G, has to live, but then none of us knows that either really & that is probably a good thing, I do love her attitude, just like I loved my sister's. I take a lot of strength from theirs.
I went for a lovely walk this afternoon & stopped quite a few times & just sat & listened to the birds. I also saw lots of small holes dug in the ground & have been wondering lately if they were bandicoot holes. I know that we have some bandicoots near the house as we see them from time to time at night. A friend who is a vet released some up here about 20 years ago. Today I saw some scats that I did not recognise, near some of the holes in the ground down on our bush block. I took photos & sent them to our older son, D & he said they were most probably bandicoots. Yay! They are on the threatened species list & we seem to have quite a few up here. https://www.threatenedspecieslink.tas.gov.au/Pages/Eastern-barred-bandicoot.aspx

They are so cute. Our land is a safe haven for so many birds & animals.

Those bandicoots are cool. I never heard of them before . I love wild animals . I see badgers on occasion here ,a few fox and hares .
Your golf rota sounds good Cate . Enjoy
