Dylan's Diary

Well guys, I haven't really be posting lately because I'm currently in a tough situation in my life right now. Just found out I'll be moving a second time this year. All my life I lived in Wisconsin, and I moved to Illinois earlier this year which was a huge deal for me it was super hard emotionally just because I grew up in my old town. Now, I'm moving from Illinois to Texas which is probably going to be the biggest challenge in my entire life. Most of my family is getting separated it's a really horrible feeling. Some of my family lives in Nevada, most of my family lives in Wisconsin, and I'll be all the way in Texas to start a new life. Currently I'm living with my step mom and my dad because I'm currently in college and in the process of making a career for myself.

Right now, I just haven't been motivated to write anything or make any updates, let alone try to stay on track with my healthy eating. I've had a few things to eat which I shouldn't have and I'm slowly getting off track of my healthy eating, and I gained about 1-2 pounds already from just being emotional and trying to cope with this change in my life. If any of you have any recommendations or motivational videos or something please share, this is a very rough patch I'm going through and I want to over come this so I don't lose all my progress on my weight loss.

Oh, Dylan. I'm sorry you're struggling. That must have been hard coping with moving away from where you grew up, but you did. Sometimes things work out much better than you think they will. We once lost everything that we had worked to build up (our home & our business & we had absolutely no money) when our children were only 2 & 4 & moved interstate, away from all of our friends & my family to start all over again. I look back & am grateful that happened. We made a new life here & it is a much better one. I can't imagine my life if we had still been back there. Try to make it work for your own sake. Your health will be just as important in Texas as it is has been anywhere. It would be a shame to waste all the good work you have done. Try to accept whatever comes along & make the best of it. Sending you a hug if you would like one. I have plenty :grouphug:

Hey Dylan, Texas is not a bad place, you might find you like it, a lot of people do. I am originally from Louisiana, right next door, and still have a lot of relatives in Louisiana and some in Texas on both sides of the family. I know a little about Texas, its a big place, can I ask what part you are moving to?

When I was about your age my father took a job in Utah and I moved there with the family. Moving from Florida to Utah at the time seemed like moving to the far side of the moon, I am not sure I had ever even heard of Utah at the time. But in retrospect the move was good for me, I got a good wife out of it. I went back to Louisiana for school and eventually moved back to Florida for a long time, but now am back in Utah again and liking it. Life in Texas may not turn out so bad for you, if nothing else it should be an adventure.

We don't want you to either, my suggestion is that you do your best to keep on posting, even if you don't feel like it. Posting is good for self awareness and self awareness helps keep us on track.

I appreciate you being part of the forum, you bring value to us.

Thanks Cate that was sweet.

Thank you Rob this means a lot. I'm moving a little outside of Forth Worth, Texas. My dad is currently looking for a house and he seen some good listings in Roanoke Texas. I'm not very familiar with Texas, but Texas doesn't look bad at all, it's more the emotional attachment I have of the Northern states. Winters won't be the same, and it's just going to be a different life to say the least.

I'm still a college student trying to make a career for myself, so I got my transcript sent out to a few colleges in the area I'm going to so that I can resume my schooling. Honestly, I'm not depressed about the state, it's just, I hate feeling isolated. Far away from very close family members, new to areas, not knowing anyone, I guess it's going to take some time to adjust.

On the bright side and aside from feeling bad about things, maybe this is an opportunity to restart and make something of myself. Maybe later down the line I will get lucky and find a special someone, have great job opportunities, and grab a hold of what I want in life.

Hold that thought, Dylan. Things almost always end up being better than you imagine they will from my experience, xo

You can do this !!! moving is hard but the opportunities created by getting out of the familiar and moving into the unknown can be great. What are you studying ?

When I first moved to Austria I didn't know anyone or anything and it wasn't always easy but moving to a whole new place means you get to really think about who you are, what you enjoy and who you want to spend your time with. I can honestly say I have better friends now than I ever had before, simply because I had to actively look for them instead of just sticking with the people I knew from school/college/work.

Hey Dylan the Ft Worth area isn't so bad, and if you end up in Roanoke that's on the edge of the urban sprawl, not so hectic as living in Ft Worth or Dallas. That is a very dynamic and growing part of Texas, I think you'll find most anything you want there. Any thing from mud wrestling to opera. Texas has a real diversity of people and ideas, it's not and has not been for a long time the cowboy state. Not that you can't still find a lot of cowboys, but people have moved in from all over, things have changed. If I were you I'd look into going to Austin for a weekend, its only a 3 hour drive from Ft Worth and a very happening place for young people, good music and interesting people.

You should start watching reruns of Dallas and King of the Hill, or maybe not. There are more jokes about Texas and Texans than any other state. Like: You should never ask a man if he's from Texas, if he is he'll tell you pretty soon without asking, and if he's not it'll just embarrass him.

Stick with your diet and exercise plan, it will keep you healthier and more confident and the move should go well.

Texas is like 4 or 5 different states with 3 different climates. what part/ city area will you be moving to? my aunt lives right about in the geographic center of the state. pretty much the middle of nowhere. one tip... watch your driving there... there are long stretches of roads you wouldn't think the speed limit would be 75 MPH, but there are... and every once in a while you hit a small town and all of a sudden the speed limit is 35 MPH with the local police sitting by waiting for someone who is unaware.

My major is welding, I know it's not the most brain smart career, but I enjoy the hell out of it, and I'm really big into entrepreneurship.

Sorry for not replying to this, I just now had time to read it all. Yeah, I'm kind of interested in Texas and I kind of like the Southern culture. I love pretty much everything about Western movies, history, and just cool people to be around. Don't really care for all the hood drama ghetto people (I'm trying not to be so mean towards those people) but in fact, I grew up in a pretty rough part of town. Lot's of killings, murders, rapers, and everything in between. I come from a low end class family as well as high class family. My mother doesn't make a lot of money, but my dad does and they are divorced. So, I have had the best of both worlds of wealthy and dirt poor, and I think that's a great advantage to understand both sides of the spectrum.

Also, our budget is about $250k-300k for a house but we found out the closer you are to the city, the less you get for the money, and the farther away from the city, the more you get for your money such as land, house space, acres, etc. We are trying to find a house about 30-40 mins from Fort Worth, but not to far. We are currently looking into counties such as Tarrant counties. Another thing I was concerned about moving to Texas is the strict emission laws and such. I never mentioned it before, but not only I'm doing welding as my profession, I'm also a VERY big car enthusiast. This concerns me because of a lot of modifications I do to my cars so it's going to be a big change for me. Tried to convince my father to move to a county with no emissions, but it's simply not going to happen.

Yeah, I'm a speed demon for sure, so I'll definitely try to be careful. I'm thinking about moving into the Tarrant county area towards Fort Worth. I'm very new to Texas so I don't know anything. Our current budget for a house is between $250k-$350k. Not my money, so I don't really have a say in anything on where we live haha. However, the strict emissions and safety inspection is by far the biggest bummer I've discovered about moving to Texas. As far as the heat, I don't think it will bother me to much, but we will see.

Congratulations, that's awesome!
THANKS MEANS A LOT :D

Well done, Dylan! :D
Thanks cate! <3

Good for you!! 3 down is great.
I was a very happy camper this morning when I saw the numbers. Times are super hard for me right now, but I'm trying my very best to keep a strong mindset.

Having a trade is often a smarter idea than having an expensive degree, a lot of debt.

I agree with Trusylver, and welding is a particularly important trade.

I think it takes a lot of both brains and skill to become a master welder, wish I could do it. I clearly remember my grandfather, who was born in extremely rural Kentucky in 1890 and had no formal education, telling me all about how he saw the transition from joining metal using early welding and hot bolts to modern arc and gas welding. We were at a railroad museum and he could show me how every joint had been made, from the old steam driven to the more modern locomotives. He taught himself welding and diesel mechanics, and by the age of 14 (in 1904) he was in high demand, he went to work for Layne Drilling and worked on building and powering drill rigs around the world. We have a picture of him in Le Monde (French news magazine) drilling what at the time was the deepest well in the world in Paris, big news in the early 30s. And he couldn't really read or write. A very smart guy, with great talents, who "just worked in a trade".

The oil industry in Texas has a lot of demand for good welders, welding pipelines and drill rigs is an important business. I have relatives who have worked as welders in the oil industry in Texas and Louisiana.

And as somebody who works on cars I think you should look at the inspection process as a business generator. More people will need your help.

Sounds like you are starting to get into the moving thing, enjoy the process!

Good for you! About to break into the 330s, keep it up.
