Off to go try and bathe my cat now!
:D That sounds like a workout in itself... Skipping a day on the elliptical sometimes is probably a good idea (assuming you´re as gung-ho about your cardio as you are about your HIIT). Did you know that HIIT has been shown to give better cardio results than "classic" cardio? I assume you´re doing the cardio to burn extra calories so it probably isn´t of interest yet but it´s a thing that makes me happy :p
My go-to is the largest bowl of macaroni and cheese, so I'll have to find a way to substitute that!
It may be sacrilege but have you considered healthifying the mac&cheese?
Here´s a version that adds a lot of veggies. I´m sure it doesn´t taste the way you´re used to but it´s still really good and comforting. Plenty of other versions out there, of course.

I cracked up laughing when I read you were bathing your cat! Oh my goodness. Isn't that dangerous?

You are really killing it on the diet front. Keep up the good work!!

You have also inspired me to try the freshly shaven legs and flannel. I'm sure my hubby will appreciate the tip. :D

Rock it out today, sister. :coolgleamA:

Back at it, Week Two.

5:45am workout - 40 minutes elliptical
Breakfast - Fibre 1 cereal, lactose-free milk and raspberries. Seriously, 15 grams of fiber in half a cup of cereal? Yes, please!

I've got my day planned, food-wise. It's my rest day for the ab workouts I've been doing (thank god), so once I get home my only real goal is to do some personal items: clean out my purse, and top desk drawer. Small organizational things that will help de-clutter my head also.

I'm going to slap some of my self-tanner on too. I've always found that a tan makes a person look slimmer, and I'm all for anything that'll give me a boost of confidence. My eyes are on the prize today - which is my weekly weigh in and measurements tomorrow morning.

To be perfectly honest, I am doing more like MIIT. Moderate Intensity Interval Training. I know recovery is extremely important, so I rest up adequately in between workouts! :)

I actually have not, but thank you very much for the recipe! It's not a bad idea at all!

Hi
Good first week
Keep that momentum going!
I find menu planning helpful as well
Thanks for the support, Brawny! Momentum is strong moving into my second week. I like to plan one day at a time, so that I have something to look forward to each day. If I set up my menu for the full week, I lose interest quickly.

Thank you for allaying my concern. I find I just can't help it!
You're welcome! I'm glad we're all here for each other that way!

I started bathing him from day one, when we took him home from the shelter. I am allergic to cats, but not enough that some regular vacuuming and occasional bathing can't fix! The most I'll get from him is the saddest eyes, but they don't last long. He doesn't hold a grudge! :)
Thank you, Jenni! Once I get on a roll, it's not too difficult to stick to good meal plans. My partner has been lifting weights for over almost a couple decades, so I think he's appreciates that we're eating clean now.

Thanks everyone for your input, again. You're all a big part of my motivation, I really appreciate every message!
Have an awesome day today!

You are such a cheery, motivational person yourself, Liz. I think we are all enjoying one another's encouragement & support. It is amazing what a difference it can make. Hope you have an awesome day too xo

A little bit worried about what the weeklong results are going to look like tomorrow. That's when I remembered, I have a massage chair that I keep forgetting about! My muscles are thanking me already, and I know massage can help flush out any excess fluids I might be holding in.

Going to bed very soon, expect a lengthy post tomorrow! :D

Fingers crossed for the weigh-in. A massage chair sounds like a wonderful thing to have - a shame I don't have room for one!

-------------------------------------------

Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the results of my first week. Every day I found myself feeling a bit more motivated/strong, as the more effort I put in, the easier it was to say no to bad cravings and bad habits. My body is feeling a lot more capable already, and I have noticed I'm walking with my head held just a bit higher.

On a mental note, I have been feeling more positive. Even better, because I'm not lethargic, depressed or have been drinking, I have been able to offer more support to my partner. I feel that in just this short week, I've been able to be a better partner and an all around more present person. I'm really looking forward to seeing that attitude of mine continue to improve. I'm not there yet, but maybe in a couple of weeks I won't be afraid to go out and meet with friends again.

Reviewing the reports, I do see where there's room to grow.

Let's start with...
Successes:
  • I ended every day with a calorie deficit
  • No late-night snacking
  • Woke up every day at 6am, workout or not
  • No alcohol (today marks 14 full days without a single drink)
  • Drank 3L of water every day
  • Tracked ALL meals
  • Daily gratitude journals (feeling grateful really lifted my spirits every day)
  • Didn't skip any planned workouts
  • I WORE PANTS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN, LIKE, TWO YEARS!

Goals for Week Two:
  • Stretch daily (looking to fit this in right before bed)
  • Drink cold lemon water every morning (good for digestion)
  • Get in my massage chair more frequently (good for achy muscles, and overall feeling of wellness)
  • Be diligent about taking glucosamine
  • Eat enough fiber every day
  • Stay around 1200 calories/day
Of course, there's been some casual observations that I didn't even think I would be seeing, let alone this early. Firstly, and negatively, it's a lot harder to lose weight when you're 30 as opposed to 20! No shit, you're probably thinking, but I didn't really expect to see the scale sit at the same weight for almost 5 days. BUT.. positively..... my kidneys have finally caught up, and I'm not peeing so frequently. I didn't experience heartburn at all this week! I've felt more alert during the day. I have noticed I'm more outgoing than usual, and that's without effort. I've begun to enjoy smaller things, a good song on my way home from work, some playtime with my cat - things like that. I no longer dread mornings, and I don't count hours anymore until bedtime. On a personal level, my sex-drive has had a small boost. All of those are pretty amazing NSVs and I'm excited to see how I'll feel a week from now.

Moving forward, I'm going to tackle that list up there. They're all small things, which I like. It means, if it takes less than fifteen minutes, just get up and do it. Nothing there I will regret once it's done. I think my biggest concern is that MyFitnessPal app is overestimating what I am burning during cardio. I'll stop watching the "net calories" and instead focus on what I am actually taking in.

For my workouts, as of this morning I was finally up to 45 minutes on the elliptical. It's a workout, so of course it's not a breeze, but it didn't feel too difficult. I am noticing that I am getting more bored around that 25 minute mark though. My plan is to add in some intervals of higher intensity, and perhaps try to find some activity to entertain myself with while I'm there. Browsing Instagram and audio books aren't cutting it.

I think that's really all I have to say today. I am very grateful for all the communities I have that keep me focused on my goal, and for every person that comes by and reads this.

Again, if you want to add me on MFP: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/profile/elizab3t

Hang on hon: you lost 9.8 lbs in a week, right? That´s A LOT. Way too much if it hadn´t been the first week. So don´t you tell me about your metabolism slowing down young lady :p It may well do so, however, if you try to eat 1200 kcal/day for a significant period of time. Don´t you go crash-dieting when you´re doing so well, please!
Congratulations on an amazing first week :grouphug:

Thanks so much, LaMa.
No, no. No crash dieting whatsoever. I think I was more surprised by my daily weigh-ins, that's all. The first 8 lbs was gone in two days, and I know that's water weight and also the fact that I binged HARD the day before my first step on the scale. I'm not expecting 9.8 lbs lost to be regular or even close to what I'll see next Tuesday! I think at this point, I'll be happy to just see a number that starts with a 1!

:grouphug: HUGS ALL AROUND

Lol understatement of the week perhaps? I'd be buzzing with that loss! :D

Massive congratulations Liz, you can be well proud of yourself. Onto the next week now... :)

Thank you for the congratulations. You're absolutely right. :D

I think that I am not celebrating too much because I know that I tend to then say to myself, "hey, now I can relax a little. Let's have a burger!"

That I can understand. How about a new mantra? I worked so hard and did so well; I deserve to reap the benefits long-term so I won´t be endangering my progress with something as silly as a burger. Or, should you crave burgers, you can make them at home. Burgers don´t have to be bad.

I must admit if I had lost that I would be crying tears of joy! Actually, even half that! Be proud of every victory Liz. You are not going to go backwards this time. We have faith in you :)

Damn, girl - you are seriously killing it! I'm totally inspired! Five freakin inches off your waist - WTG! :hurray:

Sounds like you've made some smart new goals for yourself too. Good for you!! I'm cheering you on!!

Woooooooooooot!!

Good morning, afternoon or night! Whatever it is for you! :)

Is it possible to see changes in my face already? I'm thinking that all the sodium I had in my old diet really bloated me up. It's nothing major, I just feel less balloon-ey, and I think I'm seeing a jawline! More good news, I'm pooping daily! Isn't that wonderful to hear? ;) Really though, thank you Fiber1 cereal. I've never been more excited for a bowel movement. My boyfriend received a text from me yesterday as I was celebrating from the bathroom. I know I've got a good man when he's just as excited as I am about it.

In not amazing news, I still haven't received an email back from building management about the treadmill. I've sent two so far to them, and I'm getting really annoyed by their lack of response. Today's weather is only -10 degrees though, so I think I'll go for a walk in the evening to "pick up" Ryan from work. I appreciate the cold when it's bearable like this anyway.. call me crazy.

This morning, I slept in. It was great. I woke up at my usual 5:30am, and my whole body was like "NOPE. NOT HAPPENING". So, I laid back down after a short play with the cat and slept in until 10am. I plan on working on shoulders and back this evening, so I'll still get a good workout in! I'm really looking forward to this one, actually. Or at least, I'm looking forward to relieving the DOMS in my chair.

My gratitude journal has gotten a bit repetitive recently, which makes me think that I need to put more thought and dig deeper to come up with stuff to fill it with. It's still keeping me feeling pretty happy about everything, even being in the hole I dug myself in. I know I'm slowly climbing my way out!

Challenge of the day: Work up a sweat while getting my chores done. (including 7 damn loads of laundry!)

Task of the day: Download more high-energy tunes on my phone for workouts and bus rides home from work!

"I worked so hard and did so well; I deserve to reap the benefits long-term so I won´t be endangering my progress with something as silly as a burger."
I like this mantra! That's pretty much the mindset I've had about this. I do have a cheat planned this weekend for my sister-in-law's brunch. I checked the menu out ahead of time and the healthiest I can get is the steak & eggs, so I'm going to have the steak & eggs darn it, and I'm not going to feel an ounce of guilt over it!

I must admit if I had lost that I would be crying tears of joy! Actually, even half that! Be proud of every victory Liz. You are not going to go backwards this time. We have faith in you
Thank you for your kind words, Care. I'm definitely not going to be going backwards in time.

Damn, girl - you are seriously killing it! I'm totally inspired! Five freakin inches off your waist - WTG!
THANK YOU! I'm glad to hear that I can inspire just by working on myself! We all know it's helpful to surround yourself with good company and I certainly am surrounding by plenty of that here! I'm rooting for you just as much as you are for me! :D

PS. 200.0 on the scale today. I am SO FREAKING CLOSE to being under that two hundred mark.
(for the last time, might I add. I'm never looking back once I cross that line)

I decided to make a post of all the little things I have been doing to boost my metabolism/feel healthy.
  • 3-4L of water a day
  • keep water ice cold
  • black coffee in the morning (and in the afternoon, if feeling lethargic)
  • cinnamon in my coffee
  • morning workouts - best source of energy I've ever had
  • intervals when training
  • high-protein snacks
  • eat small snacks every 2 hours or so
  • green tea in the afternoon
  • fresh ginger in my tea
  • take b12 vitamins
  • take daily vitamins!
  • alternate temperatures in the shower, hot & cold
  • make food spicy (that I've been doing forever anyway)
  • using more black pepper, and no salt
  • get up and move every hour (if I'm stuck in a sedentary spot, I like to go do a couple sets of stairs at work)
  • high fiber breakfast - that's a new one!
  • early bedtime! 10pm is my goal every night to lay down
  • Eat more whole foods - this one I'm struggling with, but am getting better at.
That's all I can really think of, but on a daily basis, I am usually only missing 1 or 2 of these from the list.
