Training after giving blood

I'm going to be giving blood in about a week and I was wondering if anyone knew how long I should wait before weight training after donating? I think they take just over a pint of blood and I'm currently on a 3x a week FBW if it helps.

Thanks.

I think a more important question is whether you will have something to eat after giving blood and before you workout.

Give it at least 2 hours before you workout

.. from the way i feel after giving blood.. just my opinion

I feel fine about an hour after giving blood, but thats just me i guess. Depends on how much you weigh, height, etc and that will determine how tired you will be and how fast you can get back to working out

if i were you, i would not risk it.
i would wait 24 hours like nae said at least.

you dont want to faint while you are squatting do you?
faint when you are benching?

Yeah I think they do say that you can "resume normal activity" after about 2-3hours but working out may be slightly more.. I'm not a fainter and I've done it before but then again I've never worked out on the same day.

I think I'll go with Nae and PB's advice (thats Proteinboy, not peanut butter lol) and wait about 24hours just to be on the safe side! Or, I may even try working out BEFORE donating if I can, win-win!

Thanks..

I donated blood a few weeks ago, and I was specifically told "no heavy lifting for 24 hours." Then I immediately picked up my backpack full of heavy books and thought, oops... But seriously, I think you could probably get in some cardio a few hours later if you're feeling ok and you don't feel light headed at all, but I would hold off on the lifting for the recommended 24 hours.

Play it by ear. Last time I gave blood, I filled the bag in like 5 minutes (way too fast) and almost passed out.

I haven't been able to donate since that time (I get tattoo'd way too frequently and thus never qualify anymore.)

Does anyone know what kind of effect it has on your ability to lift?
What I mean is, it may well be safe to lift 24 hours after donating but are you likely to see a drop in performance?

**I have given blood and will continue to donate regardless, the reason I ask is purely out of curiosity

Well I'm not sure but I'll be donating this coming Tuesday, and I'll be working out on Wednesday as per usual so I'll report back if there's anything different in performance!..
