So I have finally gotten real with myself after seeing my sister be so successful in the start of her weight loss journey and the rest of my family joining in with her. I have always had an unhealthy relationship with food since I was a teenager. I was always very thin (unhealthy so) and afraid of gaining weight so I used to run for miles and miles and watch what I ate and do 400 sit ups every morning before getting out of bed. I wouldn't eat for days if I got over 60kg (132 pounds) which as someone who is 5'10 is just too low. Then I started college and stopped exercising and started eating lots (whenever I was bored or sad or lonely or stressed) as you can imagine the weight just kept coming and I was just denying that I had a problem. Everyone would say that I had weight to put on anyways and that it was part of me growing up. Anyways now I am 25 married and when I started this journey I weighed in at 110kg (242 pounds) an all time high for me. I cried and cried and felt like giving up but I looked at my husband and thought f*ck this I am going to get healthy and prolong our life together and get in shape so when we decide to have kids we can be a good example for them. So it has been a month and a half and I have lost 7kg (14 pounds) by just watching what I am eating I aim to eat around 1600 calories a day and while that doesn't happen every single day it happens most days of the week. I also got a fitbit and have been moving my body more which although it has made me tired in the short term I know will give me energy long term.

Anyways I am going to put my goals here to keep myself accountable for them and not be able to back out of them:

I want to get to 75kg (165 pounds)
I want to grade and get my 2nd degree brown belt within a year
I want to get down to a size 12 in clothes
I want to feel happy and healthy in my body and not exhausted all the time
I want to have a more healthy relationship with food so that I don't use it as a crutch for when I am feeling crappy.

Anyways that is my story I would love some people to join in with me motivating each other. Giving tips or tricks that have helped you and Recipe ideas would be a plus too (I am a big meat lover and really into savory things)

Look forward to chatting to you all! :)

Thanks,

Morgane

Hi, Morgane & welcome to our forum. Your goals sound very sound to me & achievable. Most of us in here have or have had an unhealthy relationship with food. Which martial art are you training in? There are quite a few of us using fitbits & also My Fitness Pal to log food. I love the way they sync as I used to manually add my exercise & I think it was almost always too many calories burned. I'll pop back later to your diary as I seem to be having trouble stringing a sentence together this morning :)

Thanks for your reply Cate. I do kendo karate which is the type Elvis Presley used to do.

Yeah it is great to get a more accurate read of exercise as well.

I am going to try and post on here daily in a similar style to Matt's Diary I think it is a great way to keep myself accountable but also to put down what I am eating and what activity I do so that people can give me pointers on what I might be doing wrong or things that I just need to adjust. I'm not going to weigh myself daily though as I think it would just put me back into the mindset of being too obsessive about what I weigh and if it didn't go down every single day I would be upset

So for yesterday I had:

Breakfast: 30g of porridge with skimmed milk and honey and a skinny latte

Lunch: Chicken and vegetable soup (ready made)

Snack: Some M&M's which I didn't need but my husband had them and I couldn't resist

Dinner: I made some beef with couscous tomatoes and onion and then had some chicken mini fillets in soy sauce, lemon and garlic powder

Miscellaneous: 4 Bottles of water

I walked 8,224 steps and climbed 14 floors.

I know that I need to be more active and that is one of my biggest downfalls I have been extra bad this week because my husband has hurt his back and I have had to do everything around the house before and after works so I am just to exhausted to move. Yesterday was a very munchy day for me too I think because I was so tired that all I wanted to do was just munch. Back on track for today though and I am going to try and get my steps up.

Thanks for all the lovely comments already guys I need it on this dreary day in Ireland!

Welcome Morgane!

You have some good goals, and a good mindset. I hope to see you reach your goals, and that you also have a good time while working towards them (because life is what happens in between, when we are working towards are goals)! :)

So here goes my second day of logging what I ate and did yesterday. I really wanted to hit my hours of activity on the Fitbit yesterday which I have set for myself between 7am and 6 pm. I work in an office and can definitely be guilty of sitting at my desk and not moving for long periods of time which only ends up hurting my back so yesterday I did over 250 steps every hour for 11 hours which was a big deal for me. I also weighed myself this morning and was down to 101.8kg which isn't a big drop but I wasn't very well behaved on the food front last week.

My meals yesterday were.

Breakfast: 30g porridge made with skimmed milk and honey. A skinny latte

Lunch: Noodles with veggies, black bean sauce and duck (not the best option I know but it was my treat because the market is on near work on a Wednesday)

Dinner: Home made chicken tikka masala with broccoli and basmati rice.

Miscellaneous: 5 bottles of water and a diet coke.

Calories: approx 1529

Steps: 10056 and climbed 5 flights of stairs.

I am going to have to start introducing some more fruit into my life because I have a sweet tooth and I think it would stop me craving junk food although I managed to avoid them yesterday.

Hey Morgane, I've been away this week so have been slow to welcome you! I'm 27 and recently married and am making changes to my lifestyle so I can have a healthy, happy family one day too :) I have a fitbit as well, lots of us do here. Hope you stick around - we are a supportive bunch and will try to help you get to your goals! x

Day 3.

So yesterday ended up being a little bit hectic. I woke up at 4am because storm Dorris had decided to arrive in full effect to the east side of Ireland and had knocked my bin down, opened my electricity box and was making all of the noise so I got very little sleep. To top it off when I went downstairs to let the cat in a realized that half the fence in the back garden had also fallen down but we didn't have time to fix it in the morning. So when we got home we had to lift it and nail it back in place until the we have enough money to get it fixed properly the neighbor agreed to pay for half of that thank goodness.

My meals were

Breakfast: 30g of porridge with skimmed milk and honey, skinny latte.

Lunch: 2 chicken drumsticks and a side of mash potatoes

Dinner: Cod fillets with Mexican rice with peppers and peas. And 3 cookies (after all the struggling with that fence in the freezing cold)

Miscellaneous: 3 bottles of water

Calories: 1645

Steps: 7743 and climbed 36 flights of stairs.

Today was payday so I am going to buy some fruits for the week and try and incorporate more veggies in my meals. Happy Friday everybody hope you have a great weekend :seeya:

Storm Doris is a nightmare! I heard someone died yesterday.. only 20-something years old. Horrible. It looks pretty calm on the south coast today - I'm braving a trip into town! Hope you have a good day, calories still look good for you yesterday despite the fence drama!

It looks much better today but it is very chilly out still there was frost this morning. It was a lot easier to walk to work today without having to fight the wind though I must say.

Storm Doris sounds vicious. Well done on staying close to that 1600 target Morgane, even though life sure threw you some obstacles!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I hurt my wrist and back so was having a bit of a downer of a weekend.

So I am starting again. Yesterday I ate:

Breakfast: 30g porridge made with skimmed milk and honey

Lunch: Beef ramen (made fresh) with pak choi

Dinner: Homemade bacon and mushroom penne carbonara

Miscellaneous: 2 bottles of water and a banana

Calories: 1469

Steps: 9,588 climbed 14 flights of stairs.

Feeling a bit better today but on some pain killers for my wrist and back which is making me feel very sleepy and lethargic so I need to make myself move today.

On 28th Feb I had:

Breakfast: 30g porridge made with skinny milk and honey and a skinny latte

Lunch: I had a Cully and Scully chicken and vegetable soup

Snack: I had a kit kat and a bag of chilli heatwave dorritos

Dinner: 3 pieces of chicken and chips.

Miscellaneous: 3 bottles of water

Calories: 1,666 Steps: 8,992 climbed 13 flights of stairs

Although not a fantastic day it was not the worst either. I got a new weighing scales as I was stuggling to see the weight on the old one so I will weigh myself either tomorrow or Friday.

Hey Morgane, glad to see you posting :) What on earth is a cully and scully? A brand? I love it. Calories are not bad, like you said, but content not fabbbbulous. Good luck for weigh in lovely xx

Haha yeah it is a brand they do really yummy soups that aren't really high in calories or fat and are super filling.

Yesterday was a much better day food wise and my hubby cooked me dinner which is a first ever. He is not very good at cooking and has a tendency to over cook everything he makes just to make sure it is cooked fully so I have had burnt sausages and eggs and pancakes before. He did so good last night though and made it all from scratch. We have a delivery box that comes once a week with all the ingredients to make 3 meals that are balanced and healthy so he was able to follow the recipe and didn't have to measure anything or guess portion sizes.

1st of March

Breakfast: 2 pancakes with honey

Lunch: Cully and Scully chicken and vegetable soup (These have been really handy as I have been really busy at work and they are tasty and filling without being full of fat or calories). Diet coke

Dinner: Hake with potato wedges with thyme and a tomato and kale sauce.

Miscellaneous: I had 5 bottles of water and a banana and a low fat chocolate milk

Calories: 1145 steps 6957 climbed 7 flights of stairs

I feel like I have reset myself with yesterdays meal and that I am going to be more careful with what I eat in March. I have a wedding next week so I just need to be aware of that and not over do it in the morning before the meal. The pain in my back and my wrist has started to subside so that will help me out with giving me back so me energy which is much needed.

Thanks for all the support so far on my journey everyone

Had another good day yesterday along with getting lots of work done! Going to do more walking today so that should up the steps a good bit and I slept in this morning as I got such a good nights sleep but it meant I didn't get a chance to weigh myself so that will have to happen tomorrow instead.

2nd of March:

Breakfast: 2 pancakes with honey

Lunch: Thai chicken soup and a can of diet coke

Snack: a cuppa soup and a chocolate milk

Dinner: Sea bass with broccoli and couscous

Miscellaneous: 4 bottles of water and a glass of 7up free

Calories: 1547 steps: 8616 climbed 11 flights of stairs

I also figured out how to set up a ticker so hopefully that is showing up now I am so going to enjoy watching it keep going down and get to the end of the road and stay down there. I have given myself a 5 kg range to stay in which I feel will be a healthy weight for me to be at. I know BMI is not the most accurate or the best way to measure but I must say the sooner I get out of the obese weight range the better I will feel and I'm sure my joints will thank me.

Happy Friday everyone!!!
