Mowens's Diary

I'm still feeling really well this week. I've been doing much better about staying on my daily calorie goals (which is 1,790 currently).

It won't be much longer and I'll need to bring my adjustment up to 1 1/2 lbs a week so that I am eating enough food. MFP takes away 10 calories every couple of pounds I lose and the number is starting to get low. I've taken @cate 's advice and stopped eating back any of my exercise calories. Because of this, I think I ought to consider moving to the 1 1/2 lbs a week mode sooner rather than later. I tend to have a daily deficit between 900-1300 calories after exercise is included.

My weight has dipped into the 230s for the first time in I don't know how many years. The last few days the pants are even looser and I think I'm going to have to make a 5th hole in my belt. It's starting to look like Swiss cheese with all of these extra holes.

Great job on the weight loss. I remember the belt I started with and then the 6 holes past the last one I had to punch-lol. Feels good - doesn't it? I never added my exercise calories to my total calories for the day- so I could eat more. I figured those were bonus calories that I burned so I would reach my goal that much quicker. Cate is right- not eating back my exercise calories worked for me. Funny thing about losing weight is the lower your weight goes the less calories you get to eat-lol. It is a good thing but not fair- not fair at all-lol.

:D :D :D to Swiss cheese belts & you feeling better this week. You are doing really well Mowens :cheers2: with water, of course :)

Dude!
You are killin it!
Stay in that good groove!
I bet Mrs Mowens is pleased.
People are about to notice!

Yay for swiss cheese belts!! You're doing great! :)

So, I Googled "swiss cheese belt" just to see if that was an actual thing or not aaaaand...

SWISS CHEESE BELT BUCKLE.

My first thought seeing that belt buckle was, "What hole do I put it in?"

And my second thought was, "I haven't pondered that question since puberty".

Hahaha Mowen... that was a good joke! Was it an accidental one or a clever choice of words? :p

Anyways, great that you need a belt now! It's nice to see such clear signs that you are losing weight, isn't it? :)

LOL! I feel inclined to call you Mama Cate or something after some of your reactions. I feel like I got busted being weird. It's just been a long week and one of those "anything goes attitude" kind of days.

I'm totally down for the Jr. High locker room banter! Sometime I think I will forever have a 14 year old as part of my persona

I may have low-balled myself a bit too much setting a 7,500 step goal for this week. Specifically the goal is 5 out of 7 days even though I hit the goal all 7 days this week. My lowest day was 7,667 and my highest was 11,184 with an average of 8,963 steps.

Because of this week's results, I'm bumping my daily goal up to 8,000 steps. That's about 3.75 miles a day.

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on where I could look into some weight lifting information? Maybe a brand or type that you like to use? Video tutorials? Just whatever at this point. I'm a total newbie and am considering getting into it just for strength and toning. I have zero plans to bulk up, just want to have some more options for exercise if I am unable to walk for any reason or just need to rest my legs.

Trusylver and/or Mr Vee would be able to advise you there mowens, but they are not about at the moment. It's great to see you bumping up your steps! You are doing so well :)

If you have a newer iPhone, it has a built in pedometer, and if you have a Galaxy S4 or newer, it has an app called "S Health" that tracks all of that for you. MyFitnessPal also has the ability to track your steps if you carry your phone on you while you walk. Granted, they aren't as accurate as a tracking band or pedometer, but they'll still give you a general idea of how you're doing.
