How do you do pullups, chinups?

Does everyone here do them at the gym or do some of you have something at home you can do them on? I do all my lifting at home and really want to start doing pullups but have nothing to hang on to. Those bars that you can mount in your doorway are not an option since I don't own the place that I'm living in. Anyone use one of those home mini gym things? Or how about just a chinup/dip stand? Any suggestions? I'm looking on craiglist now but not finding much in the way of something I can do pullups on.

I go to the gym I'm afraid, I wouldn't know where to put one at home either

You can purchase a Power Tower (pullup/dip combo) if you have a place indoors for it.

Or you can build a PU and Dip bar station outside made from galv pipe and 4x4 posts. Its quite simple. I built a high and low bar for pullups and a separate dip stand for about $60.00 for me and my kids at our last house.

Or simpler yet, use a heavy rope (2" dia) drape it over a sturdy tree branch (or rafter in garage) grab each end and pull yourself up. Those are great to improve your grip as well.

i got an installable chinup bar from walmart for 13$. it screws in.

i also found a home chinup bar at Target for around 14$ but i DIDNT buy it because it was one that wedges into the door. im pretty sure it doesnt actually install itself. and since you are likely smaller than I, it will probably hold your weight well.

just a suggestion

haha CCR your back is already huge! they should call you goliath

anyway how many chinups and pullups can you do? i understand your pulling 219 but it looks like your srtong so whats the number? :D

i workout at home.. my gym is in the attic.. in between the beems i got abit of scaffolding screw it in each side.. and so far ive tried me = 80kg and holded 40kg as a test and its fine ! lol

I do them at the gym, too, I'm afraid, though I think I'll invest in a pull up bar because, well...why not...

It looks like FastLane has pretty much outlined your best home-base, stand-alone options.

I've done them off tree branches, monkey bars at the park, the gym, and the top railing of my porch.

Certainly who ever owns teh house isn't going to get upset about 2-4 small screw holes that can easily be covered up by putty and paint when/if you move.

I made mine for outside use, 2 4x4 and a 4’ length of 1” dia ductile iron pipe.

I also made dip bars in the same fashion.

Edit:
here is a quick sketch

I just noticed I put in a couple of wrong dimensions, 7'-6" should be 8'-0" and 2'-6" should be 2'-0"

Yeah, that's what I want is a powertower. Until then maybe I'll do the rope on a tree idea. Will the rope tear up your hands? Do you have to wear gloves?

I would need to assemble it. It would probably come with everything I need to do so right? It doesn't really say either way.

good buy or goodbye?
if i were you, i would just buy an installable one. remove and cover up like evo said when you have to.

i would have to say goodbye

but if its your last hope, why not? it seems pretty low priced and you can do dips on it too. usually a dip stand sells for around 80 alone...

Well I bought it :D

It was fairly priced and I didn't have to worry about going anywhere to get it. I can't wait till it gets here! Now I just hope that it's easy to assemble.

LOL what a rebel :p
