In what order should i Exercise?

I'm not a professional either, well yet, I'm still in school.

If your main goal is to lose weight and burn fat your deit is wayyyyy off. I didn't read all of the replies, but I read your posts so I'm sorry if I reiterate anybody else's advice. Eating 1 meal with an occasional sandwiche is not a way to burn fat and lose weight.

You need to eat a small solid breakfast for energy, a low fat high protein snack before lunch, a lunch that touches on most of your food groups, another light snack, then a medium sized dinner not too close to bedtime.

You can't cut out food to lose weight. My nutrition professor has a magic phrase for weight control, "moderation and variety.'

You should start a journal for us to critisize, and make sure you do cut out all high sugar drinks like soda. Coffee is good before a workout, not right before you workout, but a little while before so that it has time to metabolise. You should try to only drink non concentrated fruit/veggie juice, water, and sport drinks after a workout.

As for your workout. You need to do some high intensity training. As mentioned before a daily mile run will get you there, but very slowly. You need to mix things up. Keep the long distance running going, but do it every 3 or 4 days. You need rest time, and you need to mix in shorter, full speed, sprinting type cardio.

I know your trying to get smaller, but lifting weights for your whole body will lead you into complete physical fitness. You can add super set's and use your gym time to also keep your heart pumping and burn off fat there too.

I'm not trying to pick you apart, but i'm trying to help you reach your goals as quickly and efficiently as possible. Good luck and feel free to PM me. Like I said, I'm in college and I have a lot of free time here.

building mass is not really what im looking for..im benching just to better my pushups but my overall my goal is to lose 40 lbs within a year.

I'm not looking to build muscle yet either...but when I hit the gym I lift weights to benefit my whole body. Lifting weights boosts your metabolism and it also prevents you from losing muscle during your weight loss. You want to burn fat? Add a whole body workout(weights) into your routine.

I'm not an expert, I'm telling you what has worked for me - see below:cool:

I don't think she meant to cut you down Beth.

Sara can correct me if I'm way off base with what she did mean, but I think it's more along these lines...

It's important to do a routine that you like, if that means running instead of, say, bike riding, then run, because you are more likely to stick with something you like.

However, you also must keep your goals in mind, and how best to achieve that within the things you enjoy to do. If your goal is to focus on improving your speed/distance running, then it would be wise to run first when you still have the most energy to devote to it.

If your goal is something like weight loss, and/or gaining strength, then it would be wise to keep the majority of your strength for the weight lifting that will be more beneficial to weight loss and strength gains than the running will be.

Well, all of that I agree with. I do. I guess it's just the way Derwyddon presented it. I took it to mean that I couldn't possibly be gaining anything from what I do and that in order for me to see results I HAD to do something different. And THAT I disagree with.

Thank you, deschaine, for the explanation, though. :)

Well, I have no idea if I was representing what Sara meant or not, but I meant it.

I just have a little experience (ok, a lot) with things I say not necessarily sounding like what I meant. I have a huge history of things coming out sounding more harsh than I meant them to. Thank goodness my husband understands that, or I'd be in a world of trouble. lol

this responce probably has something to do with the fact that i've been drinking all day but: i'm not going to cow toe to people who get all jumpy at someone who doesn't agree with them. i wasn't trying to attack you in anyway. i was trying to put in perspective your advice for someone who is trying to achieve a goal that gets people very emotional. telling someone to go run all the time is NOT something that helps people when they are in the OPs situation generally. Many people hurt their weight loss attempts by too little food and too much exercise. nothing i said was ment to be or should've been taken offensively unless by someone who gets all pissy when someone says something contradictory. i'm glad you're on the board, beth. i'm glad for every person who comes and i've been trying to help.

I apologize for getting pissy and jumpy.

Derwyddon:

Thank you. I appreciate that.
