full-body workout with dumbbells

Absolutely.

Lunges
Squats
single arm bent over rows
dumbbell bench press
dumbbell flies
Shrugs
Shoulder press
lateral raises
Bicep curls
And the list goes on.....Google for technique demonstrations

Try to include pullups as well. No weights needed.

EDIT: Just to clarify, don't do all of these in one session. It's just to point out what you can do with dumbbells.

Check this out.

I was recently in the same situation as you. For 6 months all I had to workout with were three pair DB (25,45,70#) and an old flat bench while relocating for a job (all my weight equip was at my old house).

I also found some chinup and dip bars at a nearby elem school. With just that much equip I maintained my strength (except for squats and DL), and also got very well balanced strength. And as a plus, I rid myself of a rotator cuff problem that had been nagging me for years.

DBs = good!

sample full body dumbell workout:

workout A
dumbell squats
Dumbbell Squat
dumbell rows
Dumbbell Bent-over Row
dumbell bench press
Dumbbell Bench Press
upper body assistance exercise(your choice)
rotator cuff work(cuban press)
Cuban Press

workout B
stiff leg db deadlift OR one leg single leg deadlift
Exercises - Free Weight - Dumbbell Stiffleg Deadlift
chinups/pullups(sorry, you HAVE to get a chinup bar...db's wont replace it)
DB overhead press
Dumbbell Shoulder Press
rotator cuff work

never do the same workout twice in a row; you must alternate them. you must train on non consecutive days, 3 days a week.

You can also do a lot of full body movements with the dumbbells.

Squat and press

lunge, curl and press

RDL / Deadlift, clean, squat and press

For some examples.

Dumbbells can give a really good workout.
