Need to loose 25+ pounds in 1 month

Hey guys I am currently enlisted in the USMC Delayed Enlisted Program and have been working my way to my goal for about 4 months however my ship date is being moved up to mid August and I would like to be down to 170-175 before I leave, but need to maintain my Pull-up capacity of 8 pull-ups.

Here are my specs
Male, 5' 10", 200 LBS, 21 Years Old

Now I wanted to say I have my goals because I have been to USMC boot once before and know what I have to do but this seems almost impossible. Any life savers out there? How do I loose 25 lbs in a month and not get weak?

Lose 25 pounds in just one month? That's nearly impossible unless you eat nothing.

For a healthy solution, you can lose about 4-10 pounds a month, maybe 15 pounds for initial weight loss.

May I ask why you need to lose so much weight in that time period? Your goal is certainly possible. The problem is if you pursue it you won't be in very good health plus you'll be like a twig and you will be very weak. I think you should take Dallen's advice. I don't like to discourage people so I'll leave with a possible note. You could accomplish that through determination and hard work. I'm not giving you some bull. It's all true.

If you were to succeed, you'd be in much worse condition than you are today. Eat well and exercise and it will come off - just not in a month.

You could actually achieve your goal and still be in a very healthy shape. It is all about dedication and how high is your calorie diet. Try to have 8 small meals per day or each every 2 hours from once you wake. Losing weight/fat is all about the diet deficit you put on yourself. The less calories consumed the more weight/fat you will lose. Knowing that it is not good for you to have a high deficit at the beginning. Resistance training will be a good friend in this period.

If you lose a pound a day for a month, you will not be in good shape. You'll have less muscle, less fat, probably be dehydrated and definitely be under-nourished.

Eating small meals every couple of hours is a good way to keep your metabolism up and lose weight, but you won't lose a pound a day doing it. Not even close.

Your right Def. Why not become like those animals. I forgot their name. Their metabolisms are so fast that they have to each within each hour or they die. They die because all the energy is used up too fast.

If you've been to boot before, you know that if you can't hack it at your PFT, they hold you back until you can. Opposite of officer training, where they weed you out. Kind of tells you something.

No, that is not why they die. Smaller animals have to eat a lot of food because of their high surface area to body mass ratio, which means they lose heat more quickly than larger animals. If they don't eat this much, they risk dying of hypothermia. For example, if you've ever seen Honey I Shrunk The Kids, those kids would have to eat constantly or would die of hypothermia even on a warm summer day.

Well how would one go about losing 10-15 pounds in a month??

By eating right and exercising will pretty much do it. Look around the forum for information on that.

However, I recommend saving your energy if you are going to combat deployment simply because you're going to be carrying a lot of gear as well as running/walking a lot.

I say do some quick exercises to tone up but don't worry about weight loss just yet (you might actually lose weight in wherever you are being deployed especially if you're doing a lot of walking around and running). Just go to the gym, work hard, eat properly and weight will come off as needed... just not 25 pounds in a month.

Better Goal

I think a better goal than a weight is a fitness level. You may go in over the weight you'd like, but you'll continue to lose weight there. Make sure you're building up to fitness level that will let you hack it. If you need 8 pull ups, work up to 10 or 15 before you go, so it'll be easier when you're exhausted. Start working in more cardio or running into your routine so you're ready for it. Follow a sensible diet (see the first few threads in this forum) and exercise plan. You'll be stronger and more prepared in a month than if you really worked for an unrealistic amount of weight loss.

Frankly, I don't care what you weigh when you get there (not to say the military won't care). I'm more concerned with having a fit, strong military than a skinny one. :)

Best of luck to you, and thank you for serving.
