Anabolic diet?

A friend of mine said she's on the "anabolic diet." She basically has NO carbs Monday through Friday, then she can eat whatever she wants Sat and Sun... combined with her workout routine, which is mostly cardio. She has lost 15 pounds very quickly. I tried looking up this diet, but I can't find much info without buying the book... does anyone know more about this diet? And is it safe? I want to lose some fat, maybe 5-7 pounds, and tone up. My workout consists of swimming, Pilates and weight-lifting (not free weights because I feel stupid). I want to look my best by mid-April. Any advice?

I thought Berardi had a diet like this. 5 days no carbs (or under 40 carbs) and 2 days with more carbs. Could be wrong.

I'm not sure if this is a good diet because your body has to have carbs and when you start eating alot of carbs on certain days you'll probably consume more carbs than you usually would because you are not getting them throughout the week which makes you want them even more...

Skye,

its really just a carb cycling diet. more common is the method where you go a few days on restricted carbs, then 1 carb loading day, then repeat.

or carbs only on weight training days, and just veggie carbs on cardio or rest days.

its a hell of a lot better than fAtkins diet where you just eat no carbs, ever, and as much bacon as you can stomach.

No carbs of any kind with diets like this seem crazy. Are we talking complex carbs only, or do these diets include fruits and veggies? How could someone even operate like this, it seems like I'd just be dragging every day.

I have to agree with Skye, that you'll probably go nuts with the carbs on the weekends. I tried something similar to this several years ago and I was only able to stick with it for about 2 weeks before I lost track of what day I ate what.

This might work for a temporary weight loss attempt (mostly water), but I don't see it as a permanent weight loss program.

BTW Neuro, don't let the free-weights intimidate you. They'll help you develope muscle which in turn will burn fat.... :)
