Manual Treadmills...How are they

I'm looking for something to buy for my girlfriend, and i know she wanted a manual treadmill, but I was wondering are they worth buying?? Can you get up any decent speed or can you just walk on them???

Not really looking for a recommendation at the moment, but wondering just in general if they are any good or if she will not get any use out of it??

I had a NordicTrack manual treadmill for years. It was a very good workout, just very boring. Nothing ever went wrong with it. Just had to lubricate every so often.
