chinups/pullups vs rows

i was lifting at school with my friend and we did rows . he did @200 3x8 rows. i asked him how long he was rowing and he said he doesnt row; all he does for back is chinups/deadlifts. : O so since i really like chins a lot more than rows, why are rows actually that important? is a mix of chins and rows the best b/c i want to specialize in chins/pulls

u gotta work in all those exercises to develop the back...lat pull downs , rows, chin ups, dead lifts.. etc , they will all help ya

agreed, you must do both vertical and horizontal pulls to fully develop the back. i will say that pullups will take you a long way though.

I'll have to add that after doing both rows and chins, adding high pulls (a vertical movement) has really given me a boost in my back gains.
