Squat Machine

you mean a smith machine? nope. it changes the angles, and can actually promote injury because it doesn't train all the stabilizers the same way free weight squats do.

can i ask why you're avoiding barbell squats? unless you have a back injury, squats are a crucial exercise.

I used to hate squats because they are annoying and I would completely ignore them and use leg presses. But when I started doing squats my leg strength exploded.

Just about 3 weeks ago, I wanted to incorporate squats into my workouts, and was told by a trainer to use the Smith machine to "help out" before doing standard squats. It felt a little funny, like I had no control, and I read up on here and saw all the negativity towards it. So this week, I ditched the machine, and did free standing squats. I was a little nervous, but just be careful with the weights and you will love it. It was liberating, just the way it was when I first did deadlifts a couple months back. I look forward to doing those 2 lifts the most, even though they are strenous as all get out!
