Weights & cardio-

I'm going to be doing a full body workout 3 times a week. I also was going to do some aerobic classes those days as well, basically to get a good 45 min of cardio in-since I can only last 15min on a treadmill or elliptical.

My question is should I be doing weights before or after the classes? Also, should I even worry about the classes, or just stick to a cardio machine like the treadmill and just do what I can. I want to loose weight, and besides diet I know cardio is so important- but I hate it. So what are my choices?

If you are gonna do a cardio class, I would do my weight training before the class. I would also suggest to make it a low impact class. I'm saying that because I wouldn't suggest doing a full body workout and then a high impact cardio/aerobic class right afterward. You would be hindering your progress somewhat, IMO. Of course I am sure others have their own opinions on this matter. Are you only planning to go to the gym 3 days a week ?? I am asking because you could do your cardio on your non-weight training days

HI SHELLSY. and yea jpc pretty much explained it. its better to do cardio on seperate days than your weight lifting days. but if anything, you should do your weight lifting first.

good to hear from you again, shellsy. long time no chat. take care

Shells...don't forget you can also do fasted cardio in the morning if you want. I'm doing that right now. You still want to try and make sure that you are eating with in 1 to 1.5 hours of waking up in the morning.

if u dont like cardio dont do it - its a poor way to drop fat

full body three times per week is plenty although i prefer an alternating split ie

chest shoulders tris

back legs bi's

just bounce between these means one week u get chest twice and following week back etc twice

i wouldnt do cardio on empty stomach in the morn either - keep rest days for rest and keep an eye on your diet

Cardio is NOT a poor way to lose fat. Combining cardio with a solid nutrition/training plan is the most effective way to lose bodyfat.

I agree that some do not need it to lose BF however it will highly contribute to the process.

Aloha & Howzit Ms. Shelly!

So that I can share "sound & healthy" information regarding your exercise/workout routine, I would like to ask some questions please.

To the best of you understanding, what is your present overall health?
How long have you been exercising?
Have you worked with an exercise instructor?
Are you using a written structured weight-resistance workout?
Do you feel comfortable performing your weight-resistance exercises?
Are there time constraints for working out?
What are you immediate goal(s)?
And last, did you know that exercise is not meant for weightloss?
Yep! You read that last question right. I always get the same looks when I ask that question.
The answer to the requested questions will allow me to provided you with sensible/realistic information.
But please keep in "heart", what is shared is Not absolute.
It is an "offering."

Oh, thank you for your short but sincere comment regarding the "gym rant".

Aloha forn now...

We will have to agree to disagree then my friend. Cardio, combined with a caloric deficit and weight training has proved time and time again to be the most effective way to drop BF. Now the above is just a generalization of course and each and every person should be adminstered an approach that is tailored to their stats, goals, etc, however every one of my clients incorporates cardio in their approach with great success from a fat loss/muscle retention standpoint.

I am curious as to why you think cardio is a poor way to lose fat.
