You should be getting protein always throughout your day. Figure 1 to 1.5 grams of protein per lean body mass (search it), if you can't get that from whole foods, then use powder to fill in the cracks here and there. 3 scoops, 3 shmoops - get in your daily amount of protein, that's all there is to it. Best time for a shake is immediately post workout.
