protien shakes

i was wondering what are the best protien shakes to have? i dont really know anything about them and was wondering if maybe you guys could help me out and give me some information about them.

Sure.
If your from the UK I can be brand specific, But I dont know whats about in the US.

1st go for taste, its very important.
2 - find one thats high in protien, 1scoop of 22g should have about 17g of protien, 3or less grams of carbs, and 2 or less grams of fat.

don't go for weight gainers, even if you want to gain weight.
they are low in protien and usually say you should have 100g per serving. Trust me, you dont wanna be drinking a glass of milk with 100g of powder in it, Thats a lot of powder.

I have whey protein powder. Whey protein is the best (i've heard) because its the easiest digested and pumps into your bloodstream well. I know if I dont have a preworkout whey shake, i dont do as well at the gym as i'd like . give it a try if ur so inclined. also, i add syrup to make it freakin drinkable lol

if you're in the USA, I would go with Optimum Nutrition brand, either 100% whey, 100% Gold Standard, or Pro-complex which is a blend.

I'm currently also a fan of Nitrean by the vanilla is to die for.

protein powder isn't magic though. Its just easy to get protein.

Also, new research is showing a whey + casien blend like Nitrean is better for lean mass growth, and fat loss. whey almost digests too fast.

IS there someone who can give me a list of healthy recipes of shakes?

I am in a diet right now..

Thank you..

what I do personally is add different fruits to my shake. So I almost always buy vanilla, I add strawberries and bannanas most of the time (frozen). it tastes really good and adds variety to the normal protein shake. That's probably a better choice than syrup >LOL

1) 1>2 scoops of vanilla whey protein
2) 20oz of skim milk
3) 3-4 whole straberries
4) half of a bannana
5) add a serving of oatmeal into the shake- you'll want to place the oats into a food processor first so that you can get the oats to be at a powder consistancy.

Guess I could write an explanation about the different kinds of protein powders on the market since there is some different types out there, maybe clear out some confusion:

When manufacturing you start out with ordinary milk and make cheese, meaning the casein is removed from the milk and you get a cottage-mass that you press to cheese.

What’s left is a yellow soup with lactose, whey proteins and salts, together known as whey.
This whey is then filtered under high pressure through a fine filter.
Through the filter comes salt, lactose and water but on the other side the whey concentrate remains.

The concentrate can be sprayed in a fine mist meeting hot air (spray dry). What falls down on the bottom of the dryer is a fine powder containing rougly 80% protein 7% milk sugar and 5% fat. A whey concentrate ready for sale.

You can ofcourse change to a even finer filter after the first filtering and refine it to an isolate. The Whey isolate has much less fat and milk sugar than the concentrate.

Hydrolyzed protein is a protein that has been split with the help of water (and acid or different enzymes) to shorter chains. A protein can be a chain of hundreds of amino acids. Depending on how heavily you hydrolyze you can get these chains down to only a few or even completely free amino acids.

Naturally the price goes up for every step of processing. The practical benefit of hydrolyzation is debated while the Isolation does get rid of most of the sugar and fat that you probably dont want.

The main types of protein thats sold is whey(the fastest) and casein(the slowest) and you could say that whey works anabolic while casein works anti-catabolic. PWO they both seem to be equally efficient, in the morning you probably want whey to break your anti-catabolic state, in the evening you want casein that lasts through the night and during the day a mix could be good. Complementing the meals could be done by whatever is missing in that particular meal.

Sry for any misspells. Bed time.

Come on then R.Lewis,

Name drop a few for us guys in the UK.

Preferably one for me to bulk up, and one for the wife who is trying to lose weight by swapping fat with muscles hence burning more calories (see i've been reading up on these boards:D ).

At present i am using Maximuxcle Cyclone, and she is taking Thermobol tablets (although i'm not quite sure if these tablets are actualy any good)

Hey if your looking for suppliments I think you know what I'm going to suggest.
Just look at my sig!

I like myprotein as you can buy whatever you want. Their selection is massive and you can have blends of powder mixed up for you. (like making your own paint in homebase.)

Lets just say you want to bulk but your on a budget, you may want to go for
20% whey protein consentrate
15% whey protein isolate
65% gound oats
+ flavoring (7flavors)
+ ginsing or garlic extract

they will mix it all up for you and you can buy 1-100Kg at a time, with discounts for bulk buys.

I didnt want to post it, but I have a code to get 5% off, so you'll have to PM me.

Recently I bought some Whey powder at GNC and I just can't do the shakes! Prior to trying this I was using Slim Fast shakes, and they taste great to me (i'm really not a picky eater but these shakes I'm making make me twitch and almost gag). I know they're not the best for you, but it's better than my old hash breakfast lol.

Any tips?

I have been using 1 cup skim milk, 1 scoop choc. why powder (wish I bought vanilla), 1/2 cup ice, spoonful of non-fat yogurt (also tried with 1/2 banana and it made it worse lol).

I think the problem is there just isn't enough sugar in them for me (also way too chalky), is Splenda an option here, if so how much? I've also thought about mixing this with about 6-8 ounces of water and just chugging it, but I'm afraid of throwing it up at the gym, so I'm kind of holding off on that option for now lol.

I'm not quite sure that you should take protien shake. I've heard that they are steroid and can mess you up, but will get you hyooooogee.

I have a delicious protein shake that I make each day and it consists of the protein called Pro 5, Vanilla flavor, with All natural peanut butter, half a banana, and some flaxseed. It tastes so good. It almost tastes like you are cheating, but youre not.haha
