Need some help from the other fathers out there!!

Hello everyone, its been awhile since I've been on here.
I all but stopped working out and running for about 9 months now since the birt of our daughter in Dec. 05. Before, I could hit the gym whenever, and I was truckin' along. I had gain 17lbs of lean muscle, over the period of about a year and was loving it.
Now that my wife and I have settle in with our new bundle of joy ( I never thougt I'd use that term, but she truly is a bundle of joy), I'm ready to get back on the horse. Problem is this; I run my own business which takes up a huge amount of my day, at least ten hours, then when I get off work I like to spend at least a couple hours with my daughter before she crashes.

So I guess my question is this; How do you other fathers go about finding the time to workout, and balance your family and work? I know I can find the time in the morning or something, I'm just fishing for other peoples schedules here.

do you have the money and space to have a home gym?

If so then thats your answer.

Or you can develop a routine with the stuff you have now, until your schedule begins to clear up.

Or you can modify your workout routine to be as short as possible.

Or you can strap your daughter to your back while you power clean/deadlift.

I agree with 2 of Lei's 3 points.

For your cardio you can do 20mins of HITT.

Im sure there are other books, but I know a few people who really rate The mens health home workout bible. Its by Lou Schuler.

you could do bodyweight work at home. maybe buy some weighted vests to make it harder or something like that?

I generally will either lift between finishing student teaching at the high school gym and going to my part-time job. If I do this, I keep my workouts nice and sweet-45-60 minutes.

What I did before student teaching was I'd work, come home, play with my son when he was with me (he recently just started living with me full time), and then when he went to bed...I'd go workout. Sometimes I wouldn't get to lifting until like 10-11pm.

I have weights and stuff in my backyard.

You could always build yourself a home gym. Or get some dumbbells and use a combination of those and body weight movements during the week and hit a commercial gym on the weekend.

Not a dad, but I am a working mom. I workout at night after the kids go to bed between 8 and 9. I weight train 3 days a week and do cardio 3 days a week. I limit workouts to about 45 minutes.I literally go non stop from when I get up until I go to bed. I watch very little tv. You just have to schedule it. My husband works many hours and blocks out time at lunch to work out at a local gym. It is definately something you have to schedule otherwise life takes over and you forget about it. We have 4 children all invloved in other things besides school and it is possible to take time for ourselves. Best of luck and congrats on your baby girl!
