Explanation of stretch marks

Can anyone tell me the difference between white and red stretch marks? I have white stretch marks appearing all over my body as i've joined a gym in the last month and not sure what they mean!

thanks

Red = new
White = old (or new, very small ones)

hey does any 1 know if cocoa butter works or not? caz i hate using the stuff because of the smell but i can bare it if it works

not sure, If anyone knows how to stop them that would be good. I get them round my triceps and they take damn ages to fade away.

I've started using a "bio-oil" from pharmacists, which supposedly helps stretch marks fade. I think its working, though I haven't been using it long.

i have a son so i had bad stretch marks, i started using neutrogena's microdermabrasion system, you can but it in cvs.
my stretch marks have lightened, and the texture of my skin is smoother. just make sure you use a firming lotion afterwards to keep skin very smooth.

I heard cocoa butter is suppose to prevent them.. not fade them or rid them.

Cocoa butter is suppose to allow the skin to endure elasticity.. Stretch marks happen when the skin stretches to a state where instead of ripping or tearing.. it will just stretch.. like a rubber band. Cocoa butter is suppose to just make the skin more elastic without stretching to a degree of causing scars... nor letting the skin rip or tear. I have them already.. but to prevent more I use cocoa butter.. ohh suck it up it doesn't smell bad at all.

I may be wrong but this is what I was told. My brother is really into the working out scene and starting gettin them in his inner arm near armpit.. started using the butter and they stop forming. Also stretch marks occur when you gain alot in a short period.. or lose alot in a short period. Skin needs its time to adjust to the changes. Hope this helps.

Brahma hit the nail on the head, cocoa butter will help prevent them.. and sun and time make them fade.

idk man, i bought a thing of cocoa butter, applied it as directed, used nearly the entire thing, and kept getting them (stretch marks)....I did however try this "scarzone" cream and it seemed to fade them slightly...< that would be my recommendation so far but supposedly GNC sells this stuff for like $130 that works like 90% of the time, i asked the worker about it and she said she has pregnant women coming in all the time to buy it, and they swear by it....if anyone has any real info on it please share with us!

CrowTR - It prob would have worked if you started applying it before you got the strech marks. Its not to make them go away but to stop them appering
