Protein - when to take it & how often?

I'm going to get some protein after work today. I am planning to take 2 shakes every day that I train. Is this correct or should I take it everyday regardless of whether I train or not? Also, is 1 before training and another before bedtime ok?

I usually do three lifting days and two cardio per week. M,W,F weights T,Th Cardio. I am trying to tone and build strength - generally get into a better shape!
 
I would recommend taking 2 shakes every day. Even when you don't work out, your body is still repairing yesterdays damage done by lifting and it needs the protein to build new muscle. Protein also curbs your appitite and has a high thermoic affect so it takes more energy to burn and helps maintain a high metabolic rate.

Also, our bodies were designed to derive its protein from whole, natural foods, ie, chicken, turkey, beef, eggs, etc. By eating these foods is really how you bump up the thermogenic effects of the protein.

That being said, protein shakes to stand an important part of anyone's diet. Can you be successful without them. Hell yes. Do I use them? Hell yes! I use them pre and post workout to get protein into my muscles asap.

Best bet is to listen to Berardi, and get protein in your system every few hours. Our bodies do not store aminos like they do carbs, so you need to replenish those protein stores.
