im on the edge of quitting :S

day by day i am thinking about quitting lifting weights i am really demotivated
and i got these stupid excuses such as , doc saying i should lift weights at the age of 16, nearly everytime i try to do chest exercises properly i end up hurting my rotator cuffs and taking 1-2 weeks of i ask my local fitness instructor why it happens and he goes ur lifiting too much weights for f**k sake im doing 20lb per hand flat flies and he says im lifiting too much weight i mite as well use 1lb dumbells.
for the past month i have been only working out half as much as what i used to do SO PLS MOTIVATE ME TO KEEP LIFTING WEIGHTS PLS PLS PLS

Take your shirt off and stand in front of a large mirror.Take a close look at your body, feel your biceps, chest, shoulders etc.

Now, close your eyes, imagine that you already have the body that you wanted to have when you started lifting. Imagine your head on that body. Really visualise it.
Flex your biceps, chest. Feel your body parts now. Let the feed-good-factor fill you in. Imagine, your lover complimenting you on your new body. Friends looking at your body with wow! written on their faces.

Imagine yourself being able to perform much better at your favourite sports!
See yourself scoring those extra goals or whatever. See yourself running like a cheetah!

Now open your eyes and hit the gym!:)

Damn! I had to leave work early and go workout after reading that. Well said. If that doesn't motivate someone, nothing will!

ManLondon your not a motivational speaker are you? :)

Gunit you have to learn to motivate YOURSELF, sure everyone needs a pickmeup every once in a while, but don't make a habbit out of it. If you can learn to be self-motivated your results will be more consistent and proudly earned!

If weights are hurting you, start with a body weight routine to build the strength and flexibility you need in your shoulders. There are a ton of exercises you can do.

For shoulders start with good old fashioned push ups then start varying the leverage, hand placement etc. You will build both strength and flexibility because you can work in more than one plane.

Start here and watch some of the videos he has put up. You'll be amazed at what he can do and he does mostly body weight stuff.

You're still young. (I assume from your doc saying you should start lifting at 16 years of age). Most people your age are still letting themselves get fat and unhealthy so you should already be proud of yourself.

When I started lift years ago I was a sking 145 lb. kid. I was so weak I had to use 10 lb dumbells and it was a struggle. But I kept trying just doing what I could do. I got very discouraged sometimes and wanted to quit. Now I am 180 lbs and in the best shape of my life. I'm so glad I kept it up. Now I look at all the people my age and I look 10 years younger and I am proud. Don't listen to the nay'sayers, do it for yourself. You already got a good start. Keep it up!

I've dislocated my right shoulder 3 times. Yes, I do have problems with my rotator cuff, but I just stick with it and work around it. Let me ask you, do you bench before you work your pecs? Or do anything that would work your rotator cuffs first? If so, I'd say do pecs first. Drop weight but do more reps. Don't fly out too far. DON'T do more than you can handle. On this machine I was doing butterflys at 187.5 lbs 10 reps and 3 sets. I was fine with that because I just bumped up to that and maybe the 2nd or 3rd day I worked with that weight I actually just worked my cuffs just before that, and my right shoulder came out. The other two times it happened because of skateboarding, after it did it the first time it can happen a lot more. So, that was just a bad set up for my workout. Tell you what get some resistance bands, actually what I have is a pitching trainer for baseball. It's basically resistance bands attached to a baseball that you can hook to a door. But do it the same day as your workout, but later on. It won't work your pecs but it will toughen up those cuffs. Once again, do your chest workout before anything else, and drop down to maybe 15 lbs for now.

thank you sooo much for it im gonna keep lifting weights even after i die :p

the other thing is that i feel 20lb for flies is too small i can do atleast 60 reps of em without feeling a thing but when i go above lets say 15 reps next morning i wake up with my rotator cuffs killing me

and again thank u alot ppl

hey gunit, ive had the same shoulder problem as you. make sure you warm up ALOT (stretches light reps etc). I would cut the flies out personally. stick to the compound exercises, flat bench, incline bench, decline bench, dumbell bench. remember its easier to lift lighter and not get hurt then to kill yourself and get hurt then have to takes weeks off...

QUOTE] Thanks. No, not professionally. Just that I am excellent at keeping my focused - and that is not limited to weight training.

I know how gunnit feels because I also lifted bit too much in a slightly wrong way. My shoulder has been useless for the last 3 weeks and I hope to get back to gym in the next 3 weeks.
Went to physio yesterday as well. God I am not happy at all with 6 wasted weeks.

thank u so much everyone

does it matter if i dont take any supplements or protein shakes ? and for some reason my bench press went down from 220lb to 110lb :S i couldnt even lift 110lb off my chest i had to shout for help.

the other thing is i cant do bench press at home cause i dont have that much weight or a rack i can only do them at the gym which i go to around once a week

How about instead of avoiding exercises that hurt your shoulder, do something to fix it.
Well said mreik.
I have been to a physio and she suggested doing some light excercises for shoulders and around - to keep the shoulder moving.

i have been doing loads of rotator cuff exercises for about 3 months now but i still end up hurting it maybe flies are not made for me, cause i was stuck under 70kg for 5 mins whilst performing bench press like 3 days ago and my rotator cuffs didnt hurt at all, infact the next morning it felt like i had done some intense chest workout when i only did 1/2 rep of bench press :p

also is it possible for me to get ur msn mreik and everyone else
