i have just started to work out about 4 days ago. i can't afford to go to gyms so i do not have any access to tools. i am 5'8 and i am 135 pounds.

My Daily Workout:
200~300 pushups
300~400 crunches

This worked out really well and i had a light outline of a six pack. However i realized now that whne i do crunches, i feel extreme pain in my back causing me to end up onlyu doing 30 crunches or so. what are some alternatives to crunches? or how do you do them right so your back doesn't hurt ?? whats most effective exercise in getting strong abs ?

Your daily workout routine is crap. Im sorry. your body grows and strengthens while it is resting and repairing. If you keep throwing all of this at it, you will not give it enough time to grow. Search this forum and you will be able to answer your question which has been answered 100's of times already.

You say you want strong abs, but you seem to want visible abs am I right?
This is done by lowering your bodyfat and training your abs properly. Doing crunches more than 3 times each week is just too much. 4 sets of 12-15 reps. hold onto something heavy to make it harder to do them and control the motion, dont just bounce into them.

Though, what It took me a while to learn, which i now have (thanx guys) at 15 you should not be worrying about having a six pack. Eat healthy, but when ever you want and don't restrict your calories, you need them to grow.

Workout, do that thing, just dont worry about calories, just healthy foods. But if you can get a six pack just because you play alot of football or soemthing, then great!

Thing is, I learned in Health and lifestyle management for lawenforcement that you can work out the abs as much as you want unlike the rest of the mucsles in yoru body.
Secret of the stars, for example, britney spears did over 1300 crunchs a day.

Thing is you need to work out your back as well or you'll end with bad posture. You need to balance it out. Arnold on a toothpic. keep that in yoru head.

Read lots of health mags and learn young.

At your age, you should begin by geting used to a healthy life style, sports, running, and good food. let puberty pass alittle, 17 18 years old, when you start geting hair on your chest then start weights.

that's total "BS"

ur abdominal muscles are and should be treated as a muscle group. overtraining wont do no good to you whatsoever.

NEWBIES to fitness shouldn't seek media as a way of knowledge.

2-3 times a week of abdominal workout is sufficient, anymore would be overtraining it and of course you need to REST.

& the idea behind lean/ripped abdominals, is losing the BODY FAT % , going lower than 10%. working out your abs everyday won't do any good. like i said before, total MYTH to say oh wow, i can get ripped abs by doing 1500 crunches a day... "BS"

hope my little rant has educated you :]

I just hate that kind of thing because there will be people who read it and consider it viable information. Misinformation is pretty crappy. I mean, some things are debatable. But this is not one of them.

Britney never, ever, had visible abs in any of her craptastic videos they love to play at my gym, so using her is a poor choice for an example.

and the abs are like EVERY OTHER MUSCLE IN YOUR BODY...work them 3x a week, tops, 2-4 sets, 20 reps tops. if you can do more reps, you need to increase the weight used.

Also, lots of health mags are nothing but marketing material for the supplement companies that publish them (muscle mag, muscle and fitness, etc)
