Sparrows Experiment

Patience? What the heck is that?? ;)

I know I know. I'll keep doing what I'm doing. Its fine. I'll make it. how often is it suggested to switch up a routine? I am such a creature of habit.

Thanks jcp for all your help and kind words. Its nice to be sort of accountable to someone while trying to achieve goals.

Sparrow... for me personally, I do upper and lower body workouts twice a week. And I can tell you this, my second upper body of the week is not necessarily the same as my first. Same with my lower body workouts. That's just me though. I like variety. If I remember right, I believe the body adapts to a workout in 4 weeks. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I think it is up to you. If you want to mix it up more often, I think it's okay and keeps you fresh. As long as you are making improvements, do what works for you. :) JMO !! ;)

About to hit the gym. Here is today

break: 1 cup oatmeal, 2 scoops protein (soy, I ran out of whey)
workout: back, bi, tri
1-1.25 hr cardio (15 of it HIIT)
lunch: .75c black beans, 4 oz tuna, 3 c salad
snack: 1 scoop whey, 1 c frozen strawberries, 1 t pb
dinner: 2 slices tofu
2 c cauliflower
small amt of brown rice

I was up 132 today. kinda upsetting.

Hope everyone has a nice day

Hey girlie!
Well don't you get all discouraged at a bit of water weight now. You just had your bf checked remember that it did not go up. So you did not gain actual weight. You are just like me all freakin out about a couple of pounds and denying it could be muscle weight nonetheless ! You do a heck of alot of working out ! I don't see how you don't just collapse but I totally understand how great it is to work out and get that release from the stresses of the universe lol. You're so cool ! :)

Wish you could live around me seems like we tend to do and think the same way sometimes...I almost wrote 'whey' instead of 'way' haha, guess its from reading your menu you have alot of whey in there! what the heck is whey anyway??

You're gonna laugh at this one (at my expense but go ahead). You may have already read it I posted it in another thread.

So I did't really know what it was either until I joined this board. I decided to order a protein shake the other day after my work out so I asked for a small whey  . I did't realize it was in powder form and she said: Won't it taste kind-a funny? I felt like a heel, I told her I thought it was a shake...then she gave the juice bar lesson lol

oh haha! That is hilarious! Sounds like something I would do lol .
So its powdered.....stuff.....I gather its scoops of powdered whatnot. But what was its previous 'unpowdered' derivative ????? I'm stumped!!!!!

haha I'm laughing my butt off at you guys..lol

Whey is just a protein source just like soy protein powder but it is more easily digested and taken up by hard working muscles. Soy is OK as far as i know but if there is a choice whey is the better option, especially during or after working out. However. I think it tastes like crap. Mostly. I know there are good shakes out there but whatever i have sucks. I get the Designer Whey from Trader Joes. I haven't ventured into GNC yet. It intimidates me in there! haha

btw nice to see you back Jaymie! Hope you had a nice long weekend!

SO yeah, weight freaks me and I hate that it does and for whatever reason I still hold onto my scale. I know i am doing a ton of weights and whatever weight gain I have has to be due to muscle and or water (especially since a. flo is 2 days away) but I'm still a freak when it comes to that. I want it to go DOWN. I hate being in the 130s. There are people I know who are 130-something and pray I don't look like them. 130 can come in so many forms!

anyway...blah blah...

i'm getting ready for dinner. I'm so not hungry. this is the part I don't dig too much. force feeding.

hasta...

Well props on that , dinner is my weakness! Only because I really suck at spacing out my calorie amounts and then I run outta food at work and by the time I get home I am like omg, I only had 900 calories I don't wanna lose muscle and then I eat alot ... but usually not too much to handle..but I wish it was the other way around sometimes since night time eating is supposed to be bad or w/e. However I haven't found that I have gained any weight from this...in fact boosted my metab. I think. b/c I lost weight lately.

You will get used to it! Just be calm, and things will start to fall into routine here shortly. You are too worried about losing weight ! don't worry so much about trying to lose weight and focus on what is important now like your health and well being. ;)

Hi everyone. Yippee its almost Friday. whew. Not that my days are that much different on the weekends...but tomorrow is my daughters last day of first grade. sniff. My son is going into kindergarten next year! Double sniff. wow.

Ok well my gain was all hormonal and I'm doing the smart thing and ditching the scale. I'll just weigh every once in a while. Unless it seems like I'm either gaining or losing too quickly. haha like I'm going to lose too quickly. lol I crack myself up. I'm mostly paranoid about busting out of the clothes I have. I can't afford a new wardrobe!

I am very happy with the shape I am in right now. I tried on my bikini last night and I was stunned. I actually looked good from every angle! I swim in a speedo when I'm not swimming socially so the tan lines are a little unsightly (as well as LACK of tan on my tummy ;) but on the whole everything is so firm and tight and I was happy. Abs are even starting to really show.

SO despite the weight, which Jaymie is right, I'm way too concerned with. I think my body is adapting fine. Plus I'm doing enough hard strength training and my body fat is low enough that it could just be muscle I'm laying down now.

Yesterday I didn't get a chance to post but I was a little under my cals
(1150). It was leg day and I really switched it up and went heavier on all my weights, including walking lunges with a barbell. Usually I use nothing. It was a 30 lb barbell and it KICKED MY BUTT. I am SO sore today. I cannot even tell you. I also swam yesterday 3000 yds in the pool (120 laps). After that leg workout my legs could hardly even kick in the water so it was mostly an upper body cardio workout.

Today I was planning on the gym early but my legs weren't so sure :O so after they get used to walking a little today I'll go later and do chest and shoulders and some very tame cardio-if any. Usually if I do cardio when i'm sore it gets better so I should do some.

Its been so hot that I've been doing a lot of protein shakes. I'm not sure if thats good or not. I think I could live on them if I was allowed ;) It seems way easier to get in cals with them too. You can add anything for minimal volume.

here is the day:
breakfast: 1 scoop whey, 1 c soy milk, 1 T pb, 1 t glutamine
snack: 1 stick string cheese, 1/2 grapefruit
lunch (brought it to the gym and drank it during workout) 2 scoop whey, 1c soy milk, 1 T pb
snack: 1 scoop soy, fit n light yogurt
dinner: 8 egg whites, 1 large lc tortilla, lettuce, 1/4 c mozz cheese
snack 2 sf popcicles, 1/8c soynuts

Have a great day everyone!

I can't sleep. I hate that. When I'm overtrained that happens to me. My heartrate is way up too. Its sooo quiet though, which is super rare at our house! Thats reason enough to stay up!
Anyway...

So I am totally hooked on Sudoku puzzles. Anyone else? they're super fun. I have a 4 pack that goes from a "white belt" book to a "black belt" book each with 300 puzzles in them. I figure that will last me...like the rest of my life! I take them into a bubble bath, lock the door, and then forget how long I'm in there. until my kids start beating down the door. Simple pleasures ;)

My legs are still amazingly sore. I feel like an old person. I really can hardly walk! We have a two story house so the stairs are death. its been a huge struggle to do the normal mundane things of my day around the house- and forget picking up kids, thats like picking back up that 30 pound barbell that got me into this mess in the first place! I guess I'll need to break into those lunges more gracefully ;) good thing legs are only once a week!

tomorrow I'll go swim if I get the chance. I swim mostly without kicking anyway so that'll spare my legs. Fridays are usually kinda hyper in our home and tomorrow because its the last day of school we'll be busier than normal. I'm going to try hard to stick to my weekend cheat and not make it be tomorrow. i really just want a huge thing of frozen yogurt. I cannot get cooled down lately. even at night its torture.

Well I'm boring myself so I'll try to just go to bed

Good morning

My kids are driving me nuts so this will have to be short.

I'm still super sore. duh

break-1 serving oatmeal, 4 egg whites, 1 egg
snack-1 string cheese 1/2 grapefruit
lunch- 5 oz chicken (1 cup diced) 1/2 c blackbeans, 2 low carb tortillas, 1 cup cauliflower
snack fit n light yogurt, scoop of soy
dinner- 2 scoop whey, 1 c soy milk, 1 T pb

I think shakes at night are the way I will go for awhile and I'll try not to do them so much in the regular day. they are just easier to digest and I dont' go to bed all bloated.

I dunno if I'll make the gym today. I may take the day off. I'm hurting pretty bad

adios

Kids making you loony today huh?

haha! :p

Mine are gonna drive me crazy today too. Can't wait..yay.lol
No actually I miss mine. I started missing them as soon as I dropped them off this morning at the daycare.

So your meals seem a little 'lacking' today. But you're still getting used to it. Your stomach is too so don't worry about the bloated feeling. You sure seem to have control over yourself. you can actually have a shake at night and not feel hungry after it?

You do so much exercise I think you should start trying to get about 1400 cals a day now instead of 1300 ???? Or try 1350 for a few days and then 1400. You should try to get up to 1500 but slowly.

I went directly from my little 700 cals a day to like 1400 the next day and then by the end of that week I was at 1500 cals. I gained 3 pounds. Now I try to get at least 1600 a day. and I have LOST 4 pounds ! And started exercising less actually. Well I started riding my bike more. But had a BF% analysis and it went down .5% from when I was starving!

So don't be SO cautious. Don't be afraid of the little numbers everywhere just listen to your body and you got some good common sense I know you know what you're doing!! I'm just making some suggestions that could help you to relax a bit. :D

Sparrow woman...I would love to see 130. That would probably be about my ideal weight since I'm only 5' 1/2". I don't weigh myself anymore but once a month because I don't see that much of change. If I do, I usually gain pounds, but Greene thinks that is muscle. I don't know if it's true or not.

The smallest size I ever wore clothes wise was a 14. After I had my daughter, I was a 22. Now I'm a 16, but some don't fit, so I end up going to an 18, but I wear mainly 16's.

Thanks Jaymie. I'm not SO concerned about the gain just as long as I keep in my clothes. I mostly care how I feel with the food. I hate feeling bloated or overstuffed. Most days I hit 1300 I feel like I've overdone it. Looking over my last few weeks it seems I do tend to stay pretty low carb on the whole so its probably hard to get the cals up without more carbs or healthy fats (besides PB). Veggies are so low in cals and lean meats are too. I do feel the best lower carb, thats for certain.
I would love to get my cals up but its been really hard, even when I try. I have been talking to Sarahfitchic who has advised me to start calorie cycling (which ends up being carb cycling too) to see if I can get my metabolism up even more. My high days would be around 1550-1600 and thats adding higher carb too so we'll see if that all works. It'll be hard, I know.
I'm not really as paranoid as I may sound. I'm just eager to learn my body better. It doesn't make sense right now and I just want it to be "normal"!
Its been 6 weeks with the end of this week since I've started all this and Sarah says she has seen it take up to 6 MONTHS to regulate. So i'm going the distance and hopefully it won't take that long. I'll stay true.
the shake at night sometimes makes me hungry right before bed and then I'll either go to bed and wake up feeling very clean or eat something like a scoop of pb or string cheese if I'm going to be up a while with my husband. I'd rather feel a tad hungry than really full going to bed and it motivates me to eat a good breakfast in the mornings.
anyway..thanks for your words. I hope you have a great weekend with your kids!

So today was good and I did all I said I would. I ended up doing a light workout in the pool today (2000 yds) which ended up being a little more intense than I wanted cause some guy I know who trains for the ironman was next to me and he was fast...and I'm very competetive! Then I laid out and daydreamed. I rarely get breathers like that.
Tonight I did endulge a little in a few french fries (my kids had mcdonalds) and 2 good bites of brownie. no big deal
This week seemed harder than normal for me, and I still don't really know why. The only difference I made was working all body parts ONCE instead of twice and upping my weights just a smidge-especially on legs. i really worked on form and efficiency though. Not to just do weights to do them, but really concentrate on each rep to make it matter. Too many times I just go through the motions. As far as cardio I did HIIT workouts twice on the tread, and they were great..but hard. the other days I did 45-60 min mod. cardio. I also swam 2 days this week. I normally hit the pool every other week like once. so I guess there were quite a few changes and my body really feels thrashed. My legs are the worst but my whole back is sore too and various other muscles. I would like to concentrate on HIIT workouts more to reduce my gym time and keep the weights the way I had them this week. On my off weight days I'll increase cardio length but decrease intensity, like swimming.
My muscles are really starting to pop lately and people have started saying things. I still feel "thick" though and kinda masculine with extra muscle. I also don't feel comfortable in my clothes. Its weird. I've had times where I've done weights consistently and I feel I often look "worse" before I feel I look "better". there is kind of an awkward stage. I've noticed it in others as well as I've observed in the gym over the years. I don't like not feeling right in my clothes though, thats a bummer.

Tomorrow is a busy day and it'll be a cheat day..probably. If not, Sunday will be. I like Sundays to be the cheats better cause I hate going to church feeling all nasty from the day before! but sometimes its hard to last till Sunday. I'm still craving that big frozen yogurt.
t
hanks for all of you who are giving me encouragement and advice. I really appreciate it all and hope you will continue!

Sparrow,
Congrats on your good day yesturday. I love it when there is someone else working out next to me and I can kind of compete with them, even if it is only in my own mind! Does he go at the same time as you everyday? Can you try and use him to push yourself in the future?

Good job on limiting your "tastes" of the Mc Donald's and brownie and not allowing them to turn into an excuse to binge! You are a stronger woman than I!

Sandy

Today is my off day...although I REALLY would like to go swim. Its dang hot here and I often hate days off of the gym. I don't sit still well from working out, even when my body is so tired!

I haven't had much solid today so I'll do that soon. My husband had a business meeting here at our house today so shakes actually worked to my favor today since I couldn't really cook or prepare anything while that was going on.

Break: 2 scoops whey, 1 c soy milk, 1 t glutamine
snack: 1 c soy milk, chai tea (this was SO good making chai out of the soy milk)
lunch: 2 scoops whey, 1 c soy milk, 1 T peanut butter
..I'm now burned on shakes. that was overkill.
snack: 1/2 c rice, 1/2 c cottage cheese
dinner: 1 lc tortilla, 1 c chicken, bell pepper, tomato, lettuce
1400 cal
Truthfully tastes of things are more habit than desire. I tend to taste things when I make things like my kids' lunches or something. If its there, I'll have a bite. Its not really cause I want to and most of the time its not even that good or "worth it". My biggest weakness is ice cream. I can stop at a taste but I never want to. there really aren't that many things that make me feel like I'm in danger of a binge. I think since getting better nutrition thats what I've noticed the most. I dont' really crave anything or go OHHH this is SOOOO good when I do have something. I'm just steady for once.

Today was my cheat day. I didn't even want a cheat day but I feel like psychologically they are good for me. It helps me get over my fear of certain foods that I still hold a paranoia about all the way from my anorexia days. because it was sooo hot I decided to have ice cream so I had a bunch of it via a quart of hand packed heaven from baskin robbins. I put whipped cream on it and enjoyed myself. I also had a hogie at lunch with a handful of chips and a brownie.
Breakfast was my normal "good stuff" and so were my snacks.
Another Monday comes so soon...

Hey girl! Well you are not the only one with the ice cream problem! But mine goes a little something like this...I like to get the ice cream thing out of the freezer and set it on the counter for about 5 minutes and I have to eat it out of the thing it came in not a bowl or it just isnt' the same! I then get a fork...yes i said FORK!! lol.. and proceed to barely get any ice cream on it but only the melty part around the edges of the tub and and eat it incriments at a time and only the melty part...oh man the melty part...:)

yeah, so anyway, sounds like you had a real good weekend and stuff. I know what u mean about the day off from the gym too, when I can't workout a certain day I get real depressed and bored with myself. I end up cleaning the house and then that is done and I'm all like..well what am I supposed to do now??.....lol, so usually I end up standing around the house since I just can't sit down most of the time, just waiting for something to happen or something.

But I really like to color coloring books!!!!!!!!! That is my most fav. thing to do with my kids besides laying on a cool blanky on the floor at night watching a movie that they will pay attention to. I like them to lay on the floor with me and they have had their baths and the way their clean hair smells! Ah,home. One day that will be a memory....:( *sniffle* WAAAHHH!!!!!!

haha! :) sorry about that got a little emotional on ya!
