Shadow Boxing as your Cardio?

How effective is Shadow Boxing as your Cardio? There's a tape by Bas Rutten, a retired MMA fighter....

Im just wondering if its as good as running on threadmills or steps? Any opinion/s? There's also muay thai shadow boxing and all around fighting drills etc...

Pretty effective. Depends on how you do it, of course. Running and stairs are cardio, of course, but you'll get different benifits from doing each one...that is, aside from the obvious cardio.

Shadow boxing is awesome when put into interval training rounds w/ some jump rope, bag work, body weight drills etc. It also works great as active revcovery during hard training intervals.

@Azn Dragon

Shadow Boxing is boxing alone without a partner, a punching bag, basically you punch while visualizing your opponent. Bas rutten made a tape where in he dicatates what to do so you follow, example if he says one, you give a jab, two, you give a jab and straight etc, its a good workout...

great idea

Lol im glad I found this thread. I have been doing his fitness routine for only the last 2 weeks getting in shape for basketball and seeing results. If you can keep up and do the shadow boxing along with the other exercises as he calls them out, you will be amazed.

i think its really good if only u have a bag to punch (resistance) and if your noob you should not jump into it cuz you can accidentally damage joints

If you're a WEAK newb, then go ahead and jump into it, you'll probably not be generating enough power to really damage anything long term. Plus, a good way to learn not to whip your elbow is to actually whip your elbow and be in a few minutes of pain.
