Strength only=good?

Yeah so, I train mainly for strength, and as far as I know, doing few reps of really high weights is what builds strength (as long as it burns you up completely, yes). My question is, is always doing that a good idea? Or should I alternate the way I lift sometimes?

Whats your goal?

I would alternate a little. Really heavy lifting like that does build strength more than size...but it's hard on your central nervous system, especially if you train to failure a lot.

it wouldn't be bad to up the reps to 8-10 once in a while, say for two weeks, and don't lift quite to failure.
Its also wise to take a week off every 2-3 months to let the CNS 'recharge'.
The amino acid L-tyrosine can be helpful in keeping the CNS 'happy' but it won't last forever.

I see. Thanks a lot malkore.

And to ~LV~ well it depends what kind of goal you mean, if you mean a temporary goal like "In june I want to- -" I don't have any. If you mean a general goal I can't put a sticker on a definite goal either, I just want to become big enough and strong.

also i want to add that i was told that trying to failure is what some basketball players ive met do and some guy at the gym i go to is an older then i am but he is in really good shape and i asked him how he trained and he replied "well since im old i do as many reps as i can" dont get me wrong this guy is in great shape and i think he told me he was in his 40s 50s i think oh well can just wondering but is that a good thing to do or should it be depending on your goals. if so please comment

I would suggest you set a long term goal then a few short term goals to help you keep motivated.

Once you have established this it will give everyone a better idea on what advice to give you to help you acheive your goal.
