Weird? Normal?

Ok me and my friend started going to the gym for a while

im a little overweight, i guess chubby

and my friend is very skinny



we go to the gym same time, and do almost the same amount/excercises... but what ive noticed, is that im buffing up way faster a lot more then he is

though i am still fat, i can flex out muscles and i can feel lots of new muscle tissues and definition in body which i never used to have

but for my friend... he hasnt gotten much stronger, nor bigger
 
could be he's not eating enough.. and depends on the routine and the individuals body...
 
Seems like chubby people already have an advantage maybe because of hypertrophy with the weight I dont know but we do! Lol but you cant just look at how much weight is being pumped I look at the weight ratio m friends are smaller and they move up too but not nearly as fast as me but there weight : power ratio still owns me so thats what im shooting for. Im finally getting close to 1:1 after about 6 months of religous workouts, hopefully these muscles that are getting bigger keep going even after 1:1.
 
Maybe I am way off.... but could it be that the chubby one is eating more than the skinny one? Nah...... nevermind.
