doing other exersices in between sets?

is it okay if i do like bench in between my squat sets?
so i squat one set of 5 reps. then instead of just walking around doing nothing i use some of the time for doing bench one set of 5.
i hope so as i would save time, today at the gym i was like 1 hour and 15 minnutes, maybe even longer :S
im on the bill starr 5x5 prog if u need to know.

why no reply? dident get my question or just dont know? :S

Again, you're displaying good natural instincts, Karky. Yes, in fact, you can even set up 4 or 5 exercises, and run through all of them before returning to the first exericise. This is doing a circuit, and it is a great way to optimize your time in the gym. Not only that, when you return to that squat rack, your legs will be fully recovered and be primed and ready to go.

i cant wait till one day soemone will say

im on the mathieu bourget 4x6 lol...

It's a good time management thing, and can be a good way to mix things up, but not necessarily the best way to lift.

Rest time does matter. If you're letting a muscle group fully recover, that will effect your muscles differently than say resting 60 secs between a set. It's important to vary this just like varying with exercises, intensity, etc. Doing all of your exercises in one circuit will create a rest time that is very high for each particular lift. If you're doing squats and want a 2 minute rest time, but are benching inbetween, you won't be squatting or benching with as much intensity.

Circuit training is what it is, but I wouldn't adopt it as a full time way of lifting.

well, benching doesnt use any of the same muscles as squatting would it? and i wouldnt bench more than one set in between my squat set, so i would still get some time where im just recovering.

If you don't notice a difference in intensity, then great.

I know I couldn't go from squat to bench and back without a rest and expect to lift with the same intensity.

well like i said, i will do some normal rest. my rests are maybe at 2-3 minnutes and one set of bench doesnt take up all that time:p but ill try it today at the gym and see how it works
