walking with weights

how does walking with hand and/or ankle weights work for building muscle in your arms and legs?

anybody tried or have an opinion on it?

that is a great exercise called farmers walks. i do them out in my yard during the summer much to the amusement of my neighbors and passerbys. it really is a full body workout.

another idea is to clean and press them over your head and then to do overhead farmers walks. still another idea is to only do weights in one hand for "waiter walks", like a waiter in a restaurant.
 
Treadmill and weights combo

I was wondering the same thing. I have been fast walking on a treadmill 3-4 times per week for several months. Would carrying light weights (like 2 lbs.) increase the cardio intensity or calorie loss potential?

i agree, work on your cardio and than give your arms a proper workout...i use to do this, but eventually my arms would get tired before my legs.
