zig zag dieting

hey

i was just wondering your opinions on zig zag dieting?

i heard about it from a few people and was wandering for fat loss effectiveness would it be better to . . .

. . .eat a reduced calorie diet all the time (ex. 1350 calories a day)
. . .eat a reduced calorie diet six days in a row (ex. 1350 cals) then high on the seventh day(ex. 2000 cals)
. . . eat a reduced calorie diet for 3 days in a row (ex. 1350 cals) then on the fourth day high (ex. 1800 cals)

. . . or any other combination? has anyone tried and compared these or, do you have an educated guess on whether it would be helpful or not???

thanks for all replies!

What's the point? Out of the above choices you provided, I would say go with the one where you eat 1350 for three days and then up the caloric intake on the 4th day.

But why not just adjust your eating to a lifestyle? I dunno. Seems more complex than I am willing to make things in my life.

For me eating well is a lifestyle, not a diet to look better.

BTW, your strength training program looks great. I replied to it on the other board.

1350 for 3 days and 1800 for a fourth is best. Keep your body from growing accustomed to one eating pattern helps guard against plateaus

So I have no idea which is actually better but I'm with Trainer Lynn the whole thing seems to complicated to me. Why not just eat well all the time?

This has nothing to do with eating healthy for a few days and then not. It is designed to prevent your body from adjusting to the calorie defecit and therefore storing instead of burning. On the 4th day the calorie levels are increased to maintenance levels. It is not that complicated and the same results are not achieved by just "eating healthy all the time".

Karl nailed it.

The body will adjust to what you do to it. If your mainenance level is 1800 calories, and you eat 1300 constantly, your metabolism will change to where 1300 will become maintenance. By upping your intake 500 calories, it keeps your body from adjusting.

has anybody tried this and found it to be more or less effective then just a lowered calorie level all the time???

hmmm i'm just concerned this may be counter productive and slowing me down
