Yougourt

Hi guys,
I have a question. Is eating non fat yougourt healthy. Can i eat it in breakfast and at night before going to bed??

Thank you very much for your advices :)

Yogurt is very good if it is lowfat and has little sugar in it. Many yogurts such as the fruit on the bottoms have 40 grams of sugar so stick to the yogurts that have under 5 grams of sugar

It's good to get a tiny amount of carbs before bed because it stimulates seratonin production and helps you get a better rest -- but ideally, you want to avoid anything sugary or loaded in carbs before bed : it's just energy you're going to be wasting.

A common way to have yogurt and cut out a lot of the added "junk" is to buy plain yogurt, and then mix in fruit or jam to give it the flavoring.

I agree. If you want joghurt, ONLY buy plain joghurt - or don't eat any kind at all. Berries (fresh or frozen) and grapes taste good in joghurt, as does Splenda.

You say to generally avoid carbs before bed. Does that apply to carbs from 100% whole grain wheat (complex carbs i think?) such as oatmeal?

thanks for all the replies. I bought dannnon light and fit yogurt which has 8g of sugar in it and is fat free. This is before the post so i think i wont eat those now haha. I ate like 3 or 4 of em haha.

Thanks again

You need energy while you sleep, that's given, since your body repairs itself using that energy.

However, your body doesn't need that much energy, and usually the carbohydrates you accumulated through healthy eating during the daytime is more than enough to last you the night. Any extra energy, including those from complex carbs, will be stored as fat.

If you have to get an energy source before bed (e.g., if you workout not too long before bedtime, or you had a bad eating day) complex carbs are definitely the way to go, though. They won't keep you up at night the way sugars would since the energy is released over a longer period of time.

joghurt is yogurt in German... just random words I've picked up from writing/speaking it... some stick more than others. Sorry.

Cheers fil. Its just that i'm a bit stuck on what to have with my protein for the meals near the end of the day. I know i need healthy fats but there doesn't seem to be many options other than walnut/almond nuts & natural PB.

And what's wrong with those options? They are basically the only ones - are you getting bored or something?

At the same time, slimmer, people have varying lifestyles. Maintaining an uber-diet takes a lot of time (and for some, money). You're not going to kill yourself or put on 20 lbs in a month eating some good grains before bed, so unless you think you're going to fall off the wagon as a result, it's not the end of the world if you treat yourself.

man, i cant get enough of eating natty pb or cashews. i have to stop myself to save some for the next day, too make sure i have some good fats

I'm addicted to Natural Peanut Butter too, since I bought some after finding out about its health benefits on these forums. I get a spoonful in every night :)

I havent got the PB yet and I'm not bored of the nuts, but wanted to see if there were any options as i'm sure to get bored of them eventually.

i had picked up a jar on natural almond butter last month. good stuff.

i mix my plain yogurt with cottage cheese plus cinammon and either stevia or davinici syrup or sugar. :)
