Yoga and stretching - surprised beyond belief

Hi all,

Anyone here do yoga? In P90x, there's one Yoga DVD that lasts 90 minutes. The first time I did it, I cursed and fell over and found it utterly impossible - I renamed that workout 'Yoga Death'.

But the weirdest thing is, now, 5 weeks after doing the program, I find the Yoga DVD to be one of the best aspects of it. The balance postures, the movements, the breathing, etc. - it really has helped my body get flexible! The new name for it is Darth Yoga (not utterly killer anymore. :) ).

Anyone else find this to be true? Stretching in general is a definite goodie for workouts as well; I never before realized how much more range of motion one can achieve when one takes the time to really stretch. It's now among my favorite aspects of working out.

Enjoy,

Barbara

I tried the p90x yoga once, it kicked my butt. I was so not in good enough shape to do it and ended up very sore for a few days after. That was in September or October I believe, maybe I will try it again as I am in much better shape now than I was then, I really need to increase my flexibility.

I also noticed then I take the time to stretch properly (not just trying to get through it quick), I feel much better and more flexible. I now see it as part of my workout not just something that must be done at the end.

though trying to find a good yoga class is somewhat like trying to find a good personal trainer -there are a lot of pretzel chick classes that aren't real tough yoga classes and aren't getting the full body movement.

my brother's gorgeous wife is a former yoga instructor who finally got my hardass brother into yoga -he plays in a corporate soccer league (and has played soccer since he was a short pudgey little thing) and swears that the yoga has improved his flexibility, speed, and endurace in soccer...
