I found that, starting out for me, not knowing much about eating healthy and all that... the very first goals I set were to just stop eating simple carbs and only drinking water....
and in truth, to this point, those are still the only real rules I know to follow, but it has been working amazingly for me so far.
You'd really be amazed how 'unhealthy' it seems like I'm still eating, but still losing weight.
Simple carbs would be things like Potatoes, Sugar, White Bread, Pasta, Rice, and anything containing those. These things are hard as hell to avoid because they're so common in almost everything people eat, and they're bad because they spike your insulin levels and trigger fat storage in your body. The best way to deal with this is just to substitute all of these things for healthier versions. I only eat wholewheat bread and wholegrain pasta now, as well as brown rice. Avoiding Sugar when you're trying to lose weight is kind of a given, avoiding potatoes and fries and such are also something you'll want to do.
You'd be surprised the difference in healthiness just by asking for wholewheat crust when you order pizza, it'll let you eat pizza without it being -too- unhealthy. Other than that, the only other changes I made were to simply switch to just eating low fat versions of every day foods, like cream cheese, mayo, skim milk, ect.
Just make sure you're still getting all the things you need in a day, its easy enough to work out in your head if you've eaten any meat yet that day, or carbs, or gotten some good ol' fruits and veggies.
I personally hate the act of balancing healthy food so it was really annoying for me to start eating healthy... but it's much easier than it seems once you finally decide to tackle it...
p.s. only drink water! easiest, most healthiest rule to follow! well.. not really easiest... I guess most basic... anyway, hope this helps!
If eating in moderation is your main problem... that one is all part of the mind game of losing weight. My best advice is to try to weigh yourself in at the morning of one day... then just do your best to force yourself to only eat 3 normal sized meals of healthy food for about 2-3 days... then weigh yourself in again on the morning of the 4th day. I can almost guarantee you'll have lost 2-4lb in that time, and that alone is always HUGE motivation to yourself to say 'all I have to do is keep eating like that and the weight'll go away! It's that fricken easy!' or something. At least, thats how it kinda ended up working out for me,
