Hello all. Just thought I'd congratulate myself for losing 4 pounds this week. Freakin' success! :D

I only exercised 2 days this week, but will step it up when I finally put a tv right in front of that 'ole treadmill. That'll get things moving... watching my favorite exercise and weight loss inspiration shows, or just oprah, while treading up a sweat. Can't wait to redo my office/fitness room tomorrow so I can start being more consistent with exercise.

This is 28 days into my new diet and I've lost a total of 21 lbs! Wow this is working for me and I can't believe I've stuck with it this long. Incredible, I feel so alive and am looking so forward to the future. Good luck everybody and I hope you're doing as well as I know you can.

 That's incredible! It seems a little high though...are you sure you're eating enough?

ETA: I see that you're not. You're body needs calories, preferably over 1,000. Are you going to be able to do this diet forever? :(

ah yes I'm totally fine but thanks for the concern. I am actually on a medically supervised fast, which I will NOT be on forever. I am taking potassium and fiber, drinking nonfat milk and plenty of water and protein so it is safe. A hardcore program though, and very unconventional for a lot of dieters so I'm being as cautious as possible. I will only be on it for a few more months before I enter the maintenance phase.

Twas a rough start for the first week, but I'm actually doing well on it now thanks to our classes, support from friends and other participants in the same fasting program. I'm just happy that for the first time in years I'm below 240 pounds. There's a lot more work to be done though so I'm paying attention to my eating schedule and changing things so I will be more motivated to exercise daily.

I'm working with the Weight Management Program of San Francisco. It's a total meal replacement program and basically a PSMF (Protein-Sparing Modified Fast). It's a very aggressive weight loss program, only topped by bariatric surgery, where you eat lots of protein to keep muscle. We also take classes on behavioral modification, nutrition, etc so we know what to do when the diet ends. We have a doctor checkup every week for as long as we're on the program, with regular blood tests, urine test, blood pressure, etc. It's considered a VLCD (very low calorie diet) so we must be supervised.

Its very aggressive and I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. Also it's extremely expensive, but small price to pay for something that actually working for me. You eat so little that you lose your appetite after about a week on the program. As long as you keep eating very little you should have relatively no appetite for the duration of the program. That's good for me because I have over 100 lbs to lose. At this rate, I'll be rid of the weight in about 5-6 months. It's very nice to not be hungry all the time, as I was with regular diets.

It'll be a struggle when I start eating regular foods again, but i'm learning in my classes now how to control portions, change my environment, behavioral modification, all the stuff that will help me maintain my new weight. I'm trying to avoid diabetes 2 which runs in my family. It took my grandparents and my mom is dealing with many complications due to it. I decided it was time to throw everything I had at this extra weight I've been carrying all my life.

I wish you only the best of luck Lecola. I did something very similar to this about 16 years ago. It worked wonderfully for a few months. I lost about, hmm, 70 pounds I think? It was so expensive and at one point I actually was having nightmares that I cheated and ate lasagna. At that point I knew I had gone too far to lose weight by not eating any food at all, just the shakes. Eventually I re-gained that 70 and then some. I was young and stupid and wasn't thinking. All that wasted money! What a shame.

I really hope you can do much better than I did during the maintainance phase and after. The weightloss is a great high, but once it slows, you have to be careful not to fall back into the same old habits. I'm back losing weight again doing it the old-fashioned way of exercise and making the best food choices I can along with a smoothie for breakfast (I use Right-size.)

Good luck...I hope you can keep it all off. Keep positive thoughts!

You have one thing right, this program is freaking expensive! And you do need more motivation as weight loss slows. I am pretty motivated by a good job interview that happened last week. It was so great to walk into the office with a nice new outfit and a new lighter me. I started thinking a while ago that I was losing job opportunities due to being fat, so it felt good to go in 20 pounds lighter. Hopefully I'll be 25 lbs lighter on my final interview tomorrow. :)

Going back to regular food kind of scares me, but I hope to be very successful on maintenance. I'm looking to combine this program with a decent eating plan after it's officially over. I might join weight watchers, as the point system is simple, meetings are fun, and portion control might fit me well rather than counting whole junk foods out. Also, they have a magazine in stores that always has more recipes and the point count for them.

Also planning in taking exercise a lot more seriously and start exploring more things I can do with my body as the weight drops. When I hit my goal of 220 lbs, I'm going horseback riding! Hehehe, can't wait! :)
