Yaz and weight gain?

Okay, so, this is my first month on the Yaz birth control pill, and I was just wondering if anyone else experienced any weight gain while taking it?

It's been really hard to keep control of my weight on it, and despite the fact that I've only been eating 1,300 calories or so a day, and I've been exercising a good deal, I've still gained two pounds.

It's not muscle, because I haven't really been working out but maybe three times a week.

I was 157.8, and now I'm 159.8. This gain happened in about four days.

I know I shouldn't weigh myself that often, but I did. o:

Does anyone have any advice?

I'm not exactly in a position where I can change pills.

I'm only seventeen, and I can't do it myself. On top of that, it was really hard to convince my mother to let me go on it anyway.

(I'm on it for period related reasons, not because I need a contraceptive.)

dont weigh yourself every day...

On the handout you were given with the pills - and should have read... What did it say about the possibility for weight gain. What did your doctor tell you about weight gain with the pills?

Well, with any birth control, there's a risk of weight gain.

That's what I was told, however, my doctor told me that this specific pill didn't usually make anyone gain weight, and that if anything, it would actually help me lose weight.

I probably shouldn't have asked for advice. I was really just looking to see if someone else had experienced the same thing.

2lbs I don't think is a big deal -It sounds like you're just being 17...

Watch what it does over time...

though if you're exercising a lot - 1300 calories for your current weight and age - seems low... is that something you can stick with for the rest of your life...

I gained on Yaz.

Generally if you gain on the pill, the gain is temporary (a few months). Talk to a pharmacist instead of a doctor for a second opinion. :coolgleamA:

If you don't mind me asking, about how much did you gain? o:

I can understand if it's like 3-4 pounds, but if I'm going to gain 10 or so, it's just not worth it.

The pill messes with your hormones, so cravings for foods can increase.

And the pill can cause water retention - which can lead to weight gain.

However the only way you can gain FAT on the pill is eating too much, a little self control can go a long way when your on the pill. But the pill will not make you gain weight, eating too much will.

I'm 25 and I was on Yaz for 6 months. It was terrible. I've been on birth control for 8 years and this was by far the worst. I was moody, gained 10 pounds (and not from eating. I'm a vegetarian and workout 5 times/week with a trainer), and just felt overall miserable. I finally realized that's what it was and got off and feel much better. I'm sorry but no medicine is worth feeling worse about yourself. There's enough different kinds out there that you should find something that works for you.

I'm also weird in that if a medicine usually doesn't give people side effects, I get them and vice versa.

Hi! I went on it for a week gained 10lbs from 150 to 159.5 in one week. i hate Yaz and all birth control. The only reason i was on it was for my period. I got off it right away. My doctor said i would not gain weight but I would loss weight on it. This has happen to me the second time now. But all I know is that i am never taking birth control again. I dont need it anyway. I am not having sex or anything. I rather miss my periods then gain more weight. I am only a teenager I didnt need this in my life now.
