Wrist sprained or strained?

I was trying to strengthen my wrists and knuckles by knuckle walking like a gorilla does. I put my almost my entire body weight on my right and left hand (which was in a knuckle walk position) multiple times to strengthen them each. I also punched hard surfaces to make my knuckles stronger and bigger. I think my right hand got injure in the process.

In the process I injured my right wrist. I can move it properly and do everything I could before though. The only problem is when I put some of my body weight on my fingers doing finger pull ups with only some of my fingers like this:


The only difference is instead of the middle and index finger I use the pinky and ring finger to do these pull ups. I'm trying to strengthen my fingers by doing this and I don't much time before my deadline comes along (before summer ends). Every time I try to training my fingers my right hand starts hurting and I can't do these pull ups with it than. I don't know if this ligament, tendon or muscle problem and I need to heal it quick so I can resume training.

Anybody dealt with this before and know what to do?
 
If you have full range of motion but are in pain, it's probably a muscle strain, but there's no guarantee. (Especially considering the way you're stressing our your finger ligaments.) Either way, ice and rest your hands.

And, I've gotta question your routine. You're putting strain on your hands that they're really not supposed to go through. And you say that you're trying to strengthen your fingers? Well, there are no muscles in your fingers. Only ligaments.

To strengthen your hand as a whole, do exercises that use hand grip. (Hand-clamps and rock climbing are excellent.)
 
Well I'm trying to do rock climbing but not on rocks. I'm supposed to climb this building that has these ledges that have very low surface area and I can only get the tips of my fingers on them. Meaning I will have to put my entire body weight on the ledges with my finger tips alone.

Of course after like 4 four ledges I will be able to use my feet too but the beginning is really hard and that's why I'm introducing the exact same stress on my fingers right now on a pull up bar so I can do it in real life later on that building.

Plus I see climbers doing one finger pull ups with one hand's finger alone. They do that so why can't I. It has nothing to do with weather you have muscles in the fingers or not.
 
Experienced rock climbers are able to do that kind of thing generally because of the fact that they've rock climbed for years..and years and years. I wouldn't recommend it as a means of training to reach the ability to rock climb. (It's like how being a good runner allows you to run a marathon. Inexperienced people shouldn't go ahead and start running marathons to become good runners.)

Honestly, just going to a climbing gym is probably a more efficient means of strengthening your hands anyway.
 
Yeah you're right. I reduced the stress I put on them. Really I discovered my wrist had pain in it because I was on the computer using my right hand for the mouse, and I was putting the weight of my right wrist on my desks edge and it cause my right wrist to get injured over time.

Try to go slowly instead of going rigorously. If you put extra pressure then it would get worse. There is no time table I can mention. Only time and rest will cure a sprain.

You can wrap it with elastic bandages in order to reduce movement. You can also try over the counter pain medications aimed at inflammation like ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin, or acetaminophen. Just make sure to follow all directions on the package and do not exceed the maximum dosage. And using ice or heat applications might help with pain and swelling. Remember to only use heat/ice on for 15 minutes max then off for at least 15.

If the pain becomes severe, your fingers become numb or change colors you should see a doctor immediately. Otherwise if the pain continues for more than a few weeks then you should see your primary care provider.
