Hi there,

Jewls is my signature name and I am a mum of 2 children (B-13 & G-11). I finished my teaching degree in dec 2004 but haven't scored a job yet. I have been over weight all my life. I think it started when I was 3 or 4. I don't have any extended family just my kids (and a husband - doesn't show support).

I went to a cohen's presentation and it sounds great (too great). Does it really work, its a lot of money and i'm stretching my weekly budget to save up to do it. I'm ready casue i want to do it for me.

I would like some feedback about the program.

Cheers

Hi, Jewls don't know anything about cohens, but welcome to the forum.:)

Hi Jewls

I am not familiar with that program or what it is. Is there a link that you could provide or is it just a site that says Cohen's?

Like you, I have been overweight since childhood. My age that I packed on weight was around 11 -12..perhaps a little younger. Overweight people run in my family, but I am the heaviest for sure. What a thing to superceed at, being the heaviest in the family for all generations.

Sometimes our spouses/loved ones don't know how to support us and we don't know how to ask for the type of support we need because we don't know. Have you tried asking him for support, but in a way that he will know how to do it? Men don't like guessing or thinking of the "right" way to do it.
My husband asked me how can he show support in a way that I would want or need? I told him, I wasn't exactly sure, but perhaps him getting excited about making meals with me that would help my weight loss and international foods at that. He was happy that I was able to articulate that, because he has since ordered books that he could cook from or get ideas on and some were from Graham Kerr, who does make many foods from different countries.
I feel very loved and supportive and he felt good giving me the support that actually makes a difference to me.

Congrats on your accomplishments as being a teacher now and good luck with getting a job you desire.

By the way, you now have an extended family :)

Hang in there,
JDI

Many thanks

Hi Guys

I thought i was going to be alone in my fight against weight loss but since stumbling on this site it has been amazing.

JDI - thanks for your tips. I have spoken to my hubby on how he can really help and what i want, which sounds very selfish but i have felt like a single mum and very alone for so long. He thought everything was ok ( I understand now why people leave their marriage - its been really hard)

the old me - thanks for the web link, i have been reading all the posts with great interest. See you there.

8-2Much!

Hello everyone,
I am very new to all of this and not very technically minded! So bare with me!
I really need some support and encouragement from all of you who are currently on the Cohen program. I have been doing a little research but have not yet attended an information session. That will happen this Wednesday.
My greatest concern is sticking to the program whilst cooking for a hungry husband and 2 toddlers and a 5 month old. I feel it is going to be a huge challange but I really don't want to let myself down. I am extremely unhappy with my current weight and that is reflected in all aspects of my life. I need a change, I need to lose weight. I need some motivation! Can any of you please tell me your stories and how you managed to stick to it..or even get started?
I live in Brisbane, QLD, Australia.
Thank you very much.
8-2Much!

Dear 8-2 much,

This thread was my original one to find out information on cohens. There is a thread completely devoted to all the cohenette doing the program. If you type in cohens under the search tool you will find the Cohens suppoprt thread.

I can tell you that this plan is very stricked but it does work if you stick to it 100%. So welcome to the forum and look forward to seeing you in the cohens support thread.

cheers jewls

Hi, Jewels. I am a new starter with Cohen's Lifestyle, I had my initial blood test today and now I have to wait for my eating program. gran jan

Hi, I to am taking the plunge into health and happiness and have done my blood test and am waiting to receive my eating program. Like you, I was a bit daunted by the cost but l have been reading everyone's stories of success and feel that it will be money well spent if l can achieve similar results as all those in the weight loss forum. Bring it on! Dwali

Hi ! I went to the Cohen's information session and while I was waiting for my blood test results for a week I went on a self - styled version of Cohen's (but not weighing my food and not spacing meals properly- just 3 small lean protein meals and vegies and 3 fruits per day and lots of water and not much exercise). I had a BAD headache the first day. Any small taste of forbidden foods or more fruit than 3 per day made me really crave more and feel hungry. I badly crashed the diet on the last day when I had 2 big bowls of pasta, wine and some chocolate for dinner. To my surprise when I was weighed on my first Cohen's appointment to start the real diet I had lost 2 kg for the week!!!!
The loss was great motivation and now I have now been on the REAL Cohen's diet for 3 days. The portions are so small and scary when you weigh everything meticulously!!!!! But BIG SURPRISE I am astounded that I don't feel hungry until about 1/2 and hour before meals and then I chew sugarless gum and drink lots of water to stretch myself to reach the required 5 hours between meals. Even then I just get a few tummy rumbles and not difficult-to-manage (when I have to keep very alert in my job) low blood sugar signs such as inability to concentrate (like I always get on a low calorie diet - tried that sooo many times without success). I am full of energy and thinking so clearly and a lot of the aches and pains I had before have gone! I have 57 kg to lose so I hope I can keep it up - NO, I ABSOLUTELY WILL KEEP IT UP!!!

The hard part is being obsessive about weighing food and looking at the tiny portions on my plate and missing carrots, pumpkin, broccolli, strawberries and having still to cook for a teenage son who has a very hearty appetite and never puts on weight. I think I will cook a big hearty soup for him today with all the leftover food in my fridge that I dont eat anymore and freeze portions of it. Then I can just say to him " heat up that nice soup I made for you and grill a steak if you are still hungry- I'm having the night off".
My grown-up daughter had a great hint for me when she rang me and I told her about Cohens - she said "On the days you get weighed at Cohen's book in for a massage afterwards so if you do well or badly in the weigh-in you have something to look forward to". I think that good advice as I am an emotional eater and eat when things go wrong and eat to celebrate. Also I am single and need some TLC!!

So hope this answers some questions- I will keep you posted on progress and THERE WILL BE PROGRESS.
