Workout Videos

I was wondering the same thing. I have 2 videos and love to use them but not sure just how many calories I have burned.

wear a heart rate monitor...

otherwise there's really no real precise way of knowing...

Does it make a difference?

I would say yeah it does, because I'm new to weight loss and fitness so I follow the basic equation..more calories out than in......and I'm on this "system" of my own where i try to burn 1400 calories more than I eat..so I'd like to know if the video is doin me justice....even tho I love it i can be spending my time on the bike..

so you said the heart rate monitor will do it?

a hearrt rate monitor will keep track of calories burned during an event...

There are 100's on various tables on the web... that will give you an approximate number of calories burned but NOTHING is going to be accuarate for your body... like the calories burned monitor on the treadmill or ellipticals aren't accurate... Focus less on the actual number of calories burned and spend more time with working at a certain exertion (google rate of perceived exertion... ) and time spent in an activity.

for a person who's fairly fit, walking 2 miles per hour isn't going go do much for them cardiovascular wise, but for a person who's very out of shape... 2 miles an hour walking might be taxing... the calories burned aren't really all that important but the cariovascular improvemetns are what is important

You also should be aware that you burn calories by breathing, sleeping, posting o a forum..

Spend sometime reading the stickied threads... you'll get a lot ofuseful information

Speaking of workout videos, today I tried Billy Blank's Bootcamp (basic) for the first time. I NEARLY DIED!:svengo: omgosh, I thought that I had become fairly fit over the past year while losing 60 pounds. I do serious treadmill daily plus other stuff, but HOLY MOLY did he kick my butt! I don't think I will even be able to do it every day, but I will aim for a few times per week in addition to my regular workouts. Ouch! My abs are still sore!!!:puke:

happy sweating!

I'd say it doesn't matter too much.

Yea, calories in vs. out are the predominant factor.

Pick a caloric intake and a sane amount of exercise.

Track your progress.

If progress is lacking or coming too quickly, adjust your intake or exercise accordingly.

Sounds like you're winging it but far too many people get caught up in the numbers of it all when all they should be paying attention to is their progress.

I understand yet
Its kinda hard not to pay attention to the numbers;... when it all comes down to it its the core thing that...matters i guess...no matter if you're trying to lose inches or lbs..u have to eat less and exercise more..me burning 200 calories a day vs me burning 700...(in my mind) is the only thing that matters when im picking a workout...I'd imagine this isnt good for yanno..long term weight loss/maintenance..but you gotta start somewhere. Lots of success stories came from this method..I tried it..and it worked for me. I kinda owe it my dedication until it disappoints me.

Thanks everybody

What you're missing is my method and yours both revolve around the same core variable... that being caloric imbalance.

Where you are trying to hone in on exact numbers, I believe in focusing on sane caloric deficits and sane amounts of balanced exercise. From here, track your progress and adjust accordingly. It tends to be a whole lot less stressful. Besides, all these calculators and equations are estimations at best. So why give them so much weighting?

My 2 cents.
