Hi all :waving:
The weather's been pretty lousy here for walking lately, so I'm wondering what your favourite workout DVD's for home are?
I've been looking at buying a Kettleball workout by The Firm, or maybe one of the Billy Blanks Tai Bo whatsanames?
Thanks!

Jess :)

I know its not what you're asking about, but my fav. is my Leslie Samsone Walking DVD!

Thanks Korrie for your response :)
I'm going to google that one now and suss it out.
Maybe no-one does Billy Blanks anymore?

In high school we used the Billy Blank tea-bo tapes occassionally, they were alright, definately a fun work out and in the end you want to enjoy what you are doing.

Personally there are only two work out videos I currently use: 8 Minute ABS and AB Ripper X. I Love them both! 8 Minute ABS is a tape we used A LOT in high school PE and years later after school it was my first fitness tape I bought and still enjoy to this day (although at this point it takes a bit more than one round to feel the burn), AB Ripper X is my most recent acquisition and I have had a noticable difference in my abs since. The P90X videos are pretty pricey but I know numerous people that use the entire set not just the ab video and they all LOVE them.

Cool! Thanks so much :) I really appreciate it. Yeah finding something that's fun and works would be fantastic ;)
I'm in Australia and the range is not that flash in the shops here, so I might have to hit eBay.

Try Davina's Super Body Workout, here is a review I found (No spam)

Well, when I noticed this DVD had not yet been reviewed on Dooyoo, I just had to suggest it because I am a huge fan (of the DVD that is, not of Davina's!). I don't watch big brother and actually, I find Davina quite annoying so I certainly didn't buy this because it had her face on the cover, I chose it because I had only ever read positive reviews about it.

After the new year, I decided, as most of us do, that this year I was going to get myself into shape and live a healthier lifestyle. I have never been particularly unhealthy and my weight has never been a problem or anything, I just never did any exercise! I don't like gyms, and I don't really like running. I suppose I am quite self conscious in that way - I don't want to be watched exercising! In the past I have tried yoga and pilates DVD's but didn't stick at them and to be honest I thought this might be the same but I decided to give it a go anyway.

I ordered the DVD new off ebay and it arrived a couple of days later. I was surprised to see that on the box there were several workouts listed which all featured on this one DVD. I will list them below and tell you a little bit about what they involve:

Super Fit - This involves lots of cardio and aerobic workouts - think kickboxing, star jumps, lunges and jogging on the spot. The workout lasts around 40 minutes and includes a warm up and a cool down too. This is the best workout for burning fat and building up your fitness levels and is my particular favourite. You WILL be knackered after this unless you are very fit. My boyfriend did it with me one day and he was sweating and tired after it too (and he goes to the gym 4 times a week and runs regularly too).

Super Sculpt - This workout is more about toning but also has aerobics included so that you burn fat too. Again, it lasts for 40 minutes and has a warm up and cool down section. There is a lot of squats in this routine and also you are expected to have small weights (I just use tins of beans and they work fine). Again, you will be very tired after this and your thighs will kill the next day!

The next 3 workouts are basically one of the above workouts but with 10 minutes of extra exercises included (different exercises depending on the workout).

There is Super pump which is the super sculpt routine with additional 10 minutes of upper body exercise. There is Super legs which again is the super sculpt but this time with 10 minutes of additional leg exercises (Your thighs will hurt for about a week after this!!! Squats-a-million!). Then there is the Super abs which is the super fit routine along with 10 Minutes of abs exercises (sit ups, crunches etc).

Finally there is a short work out called super six pack for anyone aiming to get a six pack like Davinas. This lasts 10 minutes and it full of abdominal type exercises (as you would imagine).

All of the routines are excellent and I love that there is a variety to choose from. I tend to do the DVD 3 or 4 times a week and I mix it up so I am doing a variety of fat burning and toning. As I said, I am always very tired and feel very "worked out" after doing one of the routines and I am definately seeing results. I have been doing this DVD for just over a month now and in that time I have lost around 8 pounds. Now obviously, some of that is down to eating healthy too but I certainly put a lot down to this DVD, particularly as I am MUCH more toned and have muscles popping up in places I didn't even know I had muscles.

The music on this DVD is very good, really goes with the routines and helps keep your time. You will see that although this is Davina's DVD, she doesn't actually give much instruction, the two "fitness people" with her tell you what to do etc and Davina makes the odd wisecrack. If you get sick of hearing her, or if you feel you no longer need the instruction, there is an option to turn off the talking so you just have the music and can watch the workout routine.

I would certainly recommend this DVD to anyone. It is the only fitness DVD I have been able to stick at and I honestly find it quite enjoyable to do. You will be amazed at how quickly your fitness builds up and you will feel a lot better within yourself when you start doing this DVD and get some exercise. I also find that the whole routine seems to go quite fast unlike some which drag on and on, I think it is because it is quite short but intense. Anyway, do this 3 times a week and you will be fit as a fiddle and toned as a... toned thing )

I have to second the Walk Away the Pounds. I've got a Billy Blanks cd and I don't know... I like cardio kick, but there was just something in the formatting I didn't like.

Leslie Sansone's walking videos don't have a lot of flash, but you pretty much get in, do your workout and go. Low impact, and she talks enough that you're not constantly looking at the clock wondering when the hell it'll all be over ;)

I haven't tried the kettleball workout - somehow me in front of the TV with a kettleball that I could accidentally release and send flying into the TV screen seems like a bad idea :D

I am contemplating getting one of the Dance Wii games - but I haven't yet.

Also Billy Blanks 8 minutes abs is good!

I like wii fit too because you can track calories and things, if you have just eaten an extra 400 calories or whatever you can keep going until its burnt off.

Hey Healthyjess!

I have the Billy Blanks Teo Bo collection, they are a lot of fun! :)
I also have the Pussycat Dolls exercise tapes. The music is really good and the love the dancy moves.
I also have some from the the Biggest Loser which I like and ones just from Jillian Michels.

I'm really picky about my videos though, they have to be fast paced or else I get bored LOL
And they have to have good music! Another one I love is Hip Hop abs.... now that is fun!!

Have you checked out P90X yet? It has been taking over the fitness nation.
I have done it a couple time with awesome results!
Let me know if I can help

P90X can be gotten from many locations. The exercise routine seems to be solid and we have seem plenty of results from others. Take your time and look for something that fits you.

i use the 30 day shred if i cant be bothered going to the gym. Its only 20 mins and you really get a sweat on! Its quite high intensity though if you do it energetically!

I'd recommend P90X or you should try Zuzana Lights "BodyRock.tv" it's on youtube and completely free! I just started using her workouts and they're amazing! I love that they're so short (12-20min). I have looked around on the web and found that a lot of people have gotten amazing results from just using her workouts.

I combined bike riding (bought my new bike ) with Davina McCall's workout DVDs and saw great results...the ones with the short 30 minute workouts are brilliant. Unlike other lame workout DVDs Davina genuinely seems to want to help people get fit - she keeps it completely real, collapsing into a heap when she's too tired to move and not caring two hoots when she breaks a sweat in front of the camera. Hers is less about the glitz and glam and far more about seeing results. I was aching for days when I first started, always a good sign!

I would just say anything that isn't called "5 minute XXXXX" and promises INSANE results.

I've also heard many good things about the P90X and seen people who did it with great results. I think they're pretty hardcore but efficient.

If you have one of the 3 gaming consoles look into EA Sports Active2. It can provide a interactive workout that DVDs just can't.

Xbox360 WILL need Kinect (i know, got it.. whipped my ass it did!) (this will add 150 to the cost if you have a 360 without Kinect)

WII uses the WiiMotes in conjunction with supplied motion sensors in leg/arm straps.

PS3 uses motion sensors in arm/leg sensors.

2 comes with a HRM that connects to the console, and the game will calculate your calories burned based on age/weight/heart rate. same as a Polar chestband HRM rig will. Its a little expensive at 100 bucks normal price. But Amazon has it for 49.99 right now. I picked it up at target for 59 last week. I like it so far. picked up some 5lbs ankle weight straps to use with it now. the game also provides a medium weight resistance band. You can configure it to use Free Weights if you want to do so. It has 3 intensity settings for exercising Easy, Medium, Hard.

I'd also recommend P90X, it's a good investment because its really easy to scale it as you get fitter and doesn't take much space to do. If you're considering it I found (link removed) was helpful in explaining what to expect. I've been doing P90X for a good four or five months now and has yet to have a workout I didn't sweat my heart out during.
