Workaholic Newbie

Hi Everyone! I've been browsing the forums for the past few days, and the level to which people are helpful here as encouraged me to post my questions in hopes to for some insight.

I am 26 years old, 6'1 and 225 lbs. I used to be pretty active, i'd surf a lot, play raquet ball, never had to worry about my weight. Well 2 years ago i got a job at as a producer at a small software development company.I went from being active during days and working nights, to working 12+ hours a 5 days a week sitting at a computer all day.

I wanted to see what the community here would recommend with my hectic schedule. My goal is to get up early and workout before work with a mix of cardio and weights.

My main question would be diet. Should i eat before the gym, something small? Or should i eat heavy protein afterwards?

When I was a little older than you, from about 28 to 32, I worked my @ss off! 80 - 100 hours / week working 2 jobs while starting a business and raising 3 kids. It was hard, but I managed to sneak in 2 - 3 hours / week working out. Now, 15 years later, I am reaping the rewards of those earlier years and can train as much as I want. So, my recommendation is to prioritize your life and rid yourself of any extraneous activities (tv, partying, etc.) that you can and make exercise a priority and you will find time.

As for eating, I eat 1 - 2 hours before a workout and find that suits me fine.

Good luck!

Oh yeah, Welcome!

Hi Ibane,

I work for a computer compnay as well for 8:30 hrs a day plus 3 hrs of travel time so 11:30 hrs all up. I go to the gym after work 3 times a week plus sunday and also have sport on friday night and saturday. There are plenty of times to do work outside of the actual job so working at a computer shouldn't necessarily be a problem. What time frame do you get fro lunch and breaks? I have a couple of friends in the office here who run at lunch times for extra fitness.

In regards to food, I suggest you plan out your 5-6 small, healthy meals throughout the day and try and stick to a schedule. That is one advantage of working a long period at a desk you always know where you will be at most times so you can arrange to have your set meals and make sure they are healthy and fit your needs. For workout eating, I eat dinner 1 hr before a workout and have a protein shake directly after.
