Will my boobs disappear?

Contrary to popular belief, just because you gain a bunch of weight, this doesn't mean you'll have bigger boobs. Take me for example, I'm weighing in these days at around 197, but have a C cup....fine it's a B, happy!...which disappears completely once I strap on my sports bra.

Lately, my husband and I have been arguing over them. He likes them just the way they are and swears that since I'm doing upper body weight stuff that they are going to go away. He's even trying to get me to stop doing upper body workouts...especially anything to do with my chest...so that they don't shrink.

Here's the thing though. Once upon a time I did weight the 150 I'm trying to get down to right now. They were basically the same size they are now, but they didn't look that small because the rest of me was smaller. I think.

So, understanding that the fat cell shrinking process that accompanies weight loss will also effect breast tissue, am I really going to be A) completely flat chested or B) have a man's chest if I keep going with the upper body toning?

Okay, there are two parts. If you lose fat, you could lose fat from your boobs. However, if gaining weight didn't make your boobs bigger, losing weight probably won't either, unless you get really super lean.

Second part - no, 'toning' won't make your boobs go away. If it could, then I could do sit ups to get rid of the tummy flab, or arms workouts to get rid of my Australian biceps (the ones that hang 'down under'). Instead, if my muscles get bigger, all it will do is make my arms look bigger because the same amount of fat will be sitting on bigger muscle.

So unless you lose lots of fat, doing 'pec' workouts could actually make your boobs look bigger because they'll be sitting on top of bulging pecs. You don't look like a swimmer just by doing bench presses. Now, if you build up a bunch of muscles in your traps and have the funky shoulder thing going on... you could look more 'manly' but that has nothing to do with fat or boobs, and unless you're deliberately trying to make them bigger, it's not likely to happen.

Hope this helps!

Yea that helped. YAY I get to keep my boobies AND I get to win an argument with my husband DOUBLE SCORE!!

Now if I could just make some kind of deal with gravity that would put them back where they were when I was 20. :)

When I was 190 pounds I will spilling out of my B bras - now that I'm 147 the A's fit perfect or sometimes are even too big. Just me though - your body could be completely different. One of my sisters has big boobs but other than that it doesn't really run in my family. The nice thing about being an A is running is a lot easier and my hunnie still really likes them!! I wouldn't worry about working them out too much as the above poster wrote. That just doesn't happen.

I, for one, am hoping that my boobs do shrink! I have DD (sometimes DDD, depending on the bra) and it's really no fun. If I remember right, I had about a C cup when I was at 130 or so, so here's hoping!

But, as people have said, all the chest exercises in the world won't make your boobs shrink. Only fat loss will make them shrink and you can't spot reduce fat, so that's not going to cause it. In fact, like others have said, the exercise will strengthen the muscles behind your boobs and might make them look bigger. Now, they might shrink a bit while you lose weight (although if they didn't grow when you gained, then you are probably ok there).

And tell your husband that it's more important to have a healthy and happy wife than one with big boobs. And if it's not, then he won't be getting access to them anyway! ;)

Haha. Yeah, I wish to by the anti-grav bra. I have hazy memories of the days when I could not hold a pencil in place... but that was over a decade ago!

Sometimes it does make me wonder if there's such a thing as 'boob lift surgery' though.

If they weren't small before when you were 150, they won't be small once you get back there.

As others have said, breast tissue is partially composed of fat and so some of it will usually shrink with fat loss (depending in part on your genetics).

But doing upper body exercises will not cause your breasts to shrink. Maybe your husband is confused from watching female body builders. They tend to be flat chested because they have very low body fat and some of them take steroids.

i hope my get a little smaller, when i was around 190lbs i used to be about a 36-E which i can live with! but a 40-J... no no no no!

Well my boobs look better than they ever have, it must be due to losing the fat off them that wasn't meant to be there and toning around them.

My hubby is a fan of big boobs and he agrees that mine look alot better now even though they have reduced. I think boobs that have excess fat that is quite clearly not meant to be there look awful.

Keep doing what your doing chick...at the end of the day they are YOUR boobs, how do you like them to be :)

I was a B cup in my skinny days and am now a G cup. If I lose all that fat, I'm worried that I'll have the tissue of a C, but the skin of a G and will have to roll those suckers up like a burrito to tuck them into a smaller cup bra!

i agree with the post a few up. your husband has in his mind that if you start bodybuilding you will be flat chested like bodybuilder chicks. the thing is they are flat not because of any particular exercise they did but because they have cut down so much bodyfat %.

So I used to be 240lbs and I was a full C. I am now 171 lbs and now a B. My hubs wasn't happy at all with the loss of them..however they are much rounder than they used to be and he likes that lol. They do look better. Once I hit 135 or so I most likely won't have much left. I am just hoping that everything will look proportionate.
